No stranger to adidas Originals exclusives, as part of their Archive series size? are set to release another icon from the Three Stripes back-catalogue. This time it’s the early 80s cult legend – the Kegler Super.
Having first touched down in 1979, the adidas Originals Kegler Super was designed for athletes playing Keglen (a German style of nine-pin bowling) with its innovative peg system popular among bowlers. It allowed them to manually switch out pegs from under the heel for the perfect cushioning level. It also featured a reinforced suede toe cap for when bowlers dragged their toes across the surface.
Remaining true to its roots, the updated Kegler takes cues from their original sporting purpose, arriving with a ‘bowling shoe’ inspired makeover. Shades of Navy Blue and Maroon Red split down the centre of the premium leather uppers – a trend first seen in 60s America.
The numbers ‘19’ and ‘79’ can be found on the heel tabs, referencing the original production year of the shoe, and also taking inspiration from bowling lane footwear numbers. Elsewhere, premium suede covers the T-toe and mudguard surround for some added character.
The only slight difference from the original is some toned down ‘Kegler Super’ lettering which has been added nearer to the heel. Finishing things off is a classic two-tone hexagonal outsole which is positioned underfoot for some added grip on the surface.
The adidas Originals Archive Kegler Super ‘Bowling’ trainers will be exclusively available at size? stores and on the size? Website this Saturday 1st December. They’re priced at £85.
