Comme des Garçons x NikeLab VaporMax
Fresh from being spotted at the Comme des Garçons 2017 Spring/Summer presentations, Nike have just formally announced a collaboration between their NikeLab department and the menswear label. Introducing the Comme des Garçons x NikeLab VaporMax trainers.
Yes, Japanese contemporary label Comme des Garçons have taken a walk on the sporty side by teaming up with NikeLab for a special edition collaboration, the first of which being this unique take on the VaporMax. The futuristic shoe combines CdG designer Rei Kawakubo’s modernism with Nike’s tradition and innovative Air technology.
Whereas previous Air units had to be insulated by a secondary rubber layer for protection, new technologies allow the incorporation of the Air and exterior layer into one holistic, standalone Nike VaporMax Air unit – that’s the big glistening bubble at the sole! Nike says the techy innovation will allow other future designers to create new and futuristic-looking shoes too.
With the CdG version, they’ve opted for the revolutionary Flyknit material on the upper to reflect Kawakubo’s vision of a slip-on version of the VaporMax. The Air VaporMax will be available in two different colourways, one all-Black itineration and the other in a light ‘neutral’ colour scheme alongside premium tonal details.
The Comme des Garçons x NikeLab VaporMax trainers were actually one of two NikeLab silhouettes seen at the CdG 2017 Spring/Summer show with a version of the Air Moc also spotted. But as of yet the VaporMax is the only trainer to be formally announced. We’d say watch this space…
Both pairs of the Comme des Garçons x NikeLab trainers are expected to hit CdG shops in February 2017. We’ll be sure to keep you updated!
