Going Out: Grooming
Our Going Out series in conjunction with Cobra concludes with the finishing touch, the cherry on proverbial cake if you will. Grooming. An essential part of any modern male’s routine and something that you can tailor to suit your personal look.
We all know the full beard has been growing in popularity in recent months, but we aren’t all able to grow a fully-fledged behemoth due to a) work or b) lack of facial hair, and it is all about making the most of what you have. We sit down with traditional barber Swagger and Jacks to look at the three main styles and your best way of maintaining each to perfection.
A Close Shave
Where we all start life (I would hope), with that clean, boyish charm, not a whisker on your cheek, and if you are going for the clean shaven look, that is exactly how it should stay. There is no point having a little shadow, as it can often ruin the whole effect.
Pre- and post-shave are key, without taking good care, you will soon find your skin looking tired and de-hydrated with potential for red marks and blotchiness. Although not an everyday option, treat yourself once in a while to a professional wet / cut-throat shave, you will marvel at the finish.
Since that scene with Daniel Craig and Naomie Harris in the lastest Bond movie, Skyfall, sales in cut-throat razors leapt some 400%, and if you still aren’t convinced that a wet shave doesn’t work, no-one sports it better than a certain George Clooney.
A well groomed and kept stubble arrangement can make for an alluring look and help to enhance your rugged charm. A number of the major manufacturers now offer a good variety of trimmers for shorter facial hair, with little and often the key to even coverage.
Also think about shape, there will be some areas that just won’t get the growth required, and if it isn’t happening, it’s just time to trim down and find a style and shape to suit you. Remember, you will want both sides to be symmetrical! Robert Downey Jnr eat your heart out.
Make mine a beard
Bang on trend and your ticket to the secret club where everyone nods at you in respect, the beard has very much made a comeback for 2014. Worn effortlessly by Tom Hardy, shape and thickness is everything and whatever you do, don’t worry about colour!
Once fully fledged, a tight crop can be just as smart as a wet shave, and make sure you have a cream handy with a comb to keep the whole thing under control for your super smart look.
There we have it, 3 key grooming styles that work no matter what your personal style, but remember to team them with the right hair style and your fashion choice for the best effect. As shown below to great effect by The Boss, Cobra’s new face of impossibly smooth.
This concludes our final instalment to our guide to being impossibly smooth. We would like to thank Swagger and Jacks for being awesome, and of course our partner Cobra for helping us to put this all together and providing us with some quite exquisite beer.
