Gucci and Will.I.Am Smartwatch

Gucci has announced a smartwatch collaboration with Will.I.Am. The Italian luxury fashion house announced the partnership at the watch industry’s international trade fair, Baselworld.
The Black Eyed Peas singer has joined forces with Gucci Timepieces on what they’re calling the i.am+ Smartband. The ‘fashionable wristband’ can make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages and emails, store music, maps, and your calendar, and even track your fitness.
“Wearable technology and smart devices represent a new frontier for the fashion industry. It is very appropriate that Gucci is leading the way through this collaboration with Will.I.Am, as innovation has always been such an important part of our DNA,” said Gucci President and CEO Marco Bizzarri.
The design certainly looks slightly sleek, and although the technically probably won’t have anything on Apple or Google’s operation systems, Gucci’s entry in to the watch market is further evidence of a developing role for smartwatches in the fashion industry.
This isn’t the first time the Voice star has made an attempt at a smartwatch. Last year he launched The PULS ‘smart cuff’ in partnership with AT&T, which had similar functions but comes in the form of a giant cuff. It did receive somewhat mild reviews, however. This hope the Gucci smartwatch will be more of a success.
It appears as though the watch is still a concept. So, whether the brand’s i.am+ watch will hit stores anytime soon remains to be seen.
