I’m sure I’m not the only one that secretly loves the chunky looks of the Casio G-Shock range. I had one as a teenager and I loved it. In fact I’m not sure why I don’t own one now! – I’m also a fan of the TRON movies and especially their aesthetic. This version of the G-Shock seems to blend both of those things even if there’s no official connection between the two.
This Casio G-Shock has a full metal design and features laser etching to achieve that retro 80s look. It’s called the GMW-B5000CS-1ER (snappy name I know) and shares it’s design and insides with a range of other GMW-B5000 watches. That means if you like the watch but the retro grid design isn’t for you then you can choose from 9 other looks.
To create the look, the surface of the stainless steel case and band of the base model GMW-B5000D is given a black IP finish, which is then laser etched to create “an innovative Grid Tunnel pattern”.
All GMW-B5000 models feature: Tough Solar Power, Multi-Band 6 Radio Control, Bluetooth Smartphone Link and STN LCD Display. It is also waterproof up to 200 metres, has 5 daily alarms and like all G-Shock watches, it’s design to take a beating.
The Casio GMW-B5000CS-1ER comes in matching box and is available on Casio’s website at £699.
