Men’s Winter Boots Edit 2018: Rise of the Footsoldier

With the plummeting temperatures and incoming showers here in the UK, chances are you’ve had to have a rethink about your footwear. While changing up your wardrobe for the upcoming season is nothing new, it can be particularly tricky in the winter, with boots in particular often proving challenging.

More than anything, purchasing a brand new pair of boots just for walking in mud is hardly appealing. So as well as thinking practically, we say make sure you get something on point that can double up as workwear and night-out-wear. With that in mind, here’s are some of our favourite boots this season that should see you through until spring and beyond!

Men’s Derby Boots 2018

While you might be more familiar with the Derby as a silhouette with a low profile, you can find them around elongated – and we love them in boot form. The round-toed, open-laced boot in polished leather is perfect for urban Joes who aren’t too concerned about warmth but very much care about keeping dry and keeping on trend.

Something like these Frank Wright Duane boots for £84.99 should do the job. These lace-up leather derby boots feature a sturdy sole unit that gives the style a real twist on a classic pair of boots. Your new AW18 footwear staple.

Men’s Chelsea Boots 2018

One of the most versatile boots you can get this season is undoubtedly the Chelsea boot. If you get the right pair, you can pair a Chelsea with a suit during the day and change into a pair of slim cut jeans in the evening without having to find alternative footwear.

We like this Timberland ‘Larchmont’ boot in Brown for £125. Built to last every possible scenario through the AW season, the boot is constructed from Timberland’s famed rich premium burnished leather and features top waterproof protection, as well as a Gripstick rubber on the sole to keep things gripped underfoot.

Men’s Desert Boots 2018

Defined by their natural crepe rubber sole, desert boots are so durable and comfortable, they were literally discovered by World War II officers in Cairo who were looking for a comfortable option that could survive harsh desert conditions. Unsurprisingly they’ve survived the test of time and are one of the most popular boots around.

Dr. Martens have taken a smart and sleek approach to the desert boot this season with the Will Desert Boot. This durable style features a smooth brown leather upper with fabric lining and a slim AirWair sole for extra comfort. The boot is finished with a branded pull on heel tab and is available for £85.

Men’s Hiking Boots 2018

Though it might not be your first thought when looking for a pair of winter boots, hiking boots are a viable option this season. Not only do they offer untold levels of comfort and ankle support but brands these days are ensuring that styling doesn’t get skimmed over either. Plus, Chelsea boots aren’t going to cut it in the weekend countryside mud!

Named after the Umbwe route, which is one of the more difficult routes up Mount Kilimanjaro, we love this Rockport Umbwe II Chukka for £150. With the all-day cushion and support of EVA footbeds, truTECH, and Hydro-Shield waterproof construction, this leather hiking boot will keep going as long as you do, no matter the terrain.

Men’s Brogue Boots 2018

For Joes who rarely opt for trainers, a pair of brogues is probably the most casual they can get. Which is why the Brogue boot hybrid is a great solution for the wetter months ahead with higher ankles and rubberised soles to keep out the damp and the frost.

It goes with saying that Barbour have plenty of options when it comes to country wear and they come into their own in the wintertime. These Barbour Belsay Boots are Derby-style brogue boots with a 7 eyelet lace up design and classic brogue detailing around the toe for a contemporary boot with traditional style. The leather upper and Barbour’s signature waxed cotton canvas to the heel, along with pull loops, make this boot perfect at £101.21.

Men’s Leather Chukka Boots 2018

And last but certainly by no means least, don’t forget the chukka boot… or specifically the leather chukka boot. The versatility and simplicity of a chukka would be a tragedy to lose in the cooler months, so all you need to do is simply get a pair with more seasonally-appropriate leather.

We love this 3140 Chukka from Red Wing for £219. Constructed with an original leather upper with the signature Red Wings Atlas Tred, the lightweight boot features a leather insole, a rounded toe, Goodyear welt construction, nickel eyelets, and contrast stitching and laces to finish things off. Simply put, it’s a beauty.
