Menswear Edit 2016: Yellow Jackets
We can all keep our fingers crossed for no rain when autumn rolls in, but realistically we know the showers are coming. And while many waterproof aren’t the most stylish of jackets, there are some rain jackets out there which don’t compromise on style and can transform even the most casual of looks.
This season it’s all about the Yellow Raincoat. Obviously functional, the humble yellow fisherman’s jacket can add some real character to your wardrobe and replace some of those lacklustre waterproofs. Winter and Rain doesn’t have to be all drab and dark. Here’s some of our Yellow Waterproof Jacket favourite’s for the Autumn/Winter season.
Gibson Weatherproof by Penfield (£52.50)
We absolutely love simplicity of the Gibson Weatherproof from Penfield which couldn’t be a brighter yellow and really makes a statement while keeping dry. A Penfield classic, the Gibson rain jacket has been redesigned in a highly weatherproof shell fabric, making it perfect for the unpredictable autumn weather and winter showers.
Reelin Slim Jacket by Barbour (£128)
While not a Barbour in the traditional sense, this Reelin Slim Jacket is based on the classic Barbour Reelin jacket. Part of the Barbour Country Prep collection, the Reelin shares many features with the original Reelin jacket, with a more parka style design. The strong and durable jacket has a button down front, two large pockets and a fixed hood to protect you from the elements. Practical but elegant.
Jacket by Rains (£70)
With a brand name like Rains, you know it’s going to do the job. All the way from Denmark and simply called ‘Jacket’, this is a modern interpretation of the classic rubber raincoat. The lightweight fabric, with its elegant matt surface makes it comfortable to wear, and practical to carry around. Jacket comes with functional button fastening on the front and two ventilated eyelets under each armpit to ensure ventilation and air circulation. Rains do offer Jacket in a deep Yellow but for the more daring Joes, we like the paler Wax Yellow colourway.
Lerwick by Helly Hansen (£130)
An update on the classic Helly Hansen Fisherman’s raincoat, the Lerwick is a windproof and waterproof jacket for Joes which comes with a great retro design, offering protection and style whether you’re on the trawler or in the city. The full-stretch Helox+ fabric ensures full weather protection and freedom of movement. Truly classic rainwear!
Stockholm Raincoat by Stutterheim (£170)
While they may not be on your radar yet, Stockholm-based brand Stutterheim should be. Offering up high-quality outerwear, the Swedish label designed this classic cut Stockholm Raincoat after the founder discovering his grandfather’s raincoat in an abandoned barn. Each jacket is handmade from rubberised cotton with a strong attention to detail. The jacket features double-welded seams for a watertight finish, as well as two side pockets and a hemp drawstring to the hood. All of Stutterheim’s jackets are tested at sea, so you know they’ll keep you protected!
There we have it. Probably you must own jacket of the Winter no matter if you are on the water, walking through Valleys or in your favourite city. As soon as it rains the Yellow Raincoat is the must have for Winter 2016.
