Vintage Nike silhouettes seem to be all the rage of late and they’ve just announced the best of the lot. Say hello to the Nike Cortez ’72 that looks as good today as it did when it first landed over 40 years ago.
Much loved since its inception, the Nike Cortez ’72 is once again on its way back to the average Joe. It found fame almost 20 years after its original release following the success of Forest Gump. The film took home Best Picture and five other awards at the Oscars and Tom Hanks’ favourite running shoe has been an icon ever since.
The Cortez was said by many to have revolutionised the running world with its innovative design that was inspired by track coach Bill Bowerman. On its release it had one single goal: to be as comfortable and durable as possible. While ticking both those boxes, Nike also produced a thing a true beauty.
The Nike Cortez is back for 2015 appearing in its original colourway and build. True to form, it features premium White leather uppers, a foam tongue, and a Varsity Red Swoosh logo, as well as the classic herringbone outsole for superior traction and iconic pull tab.
This isn’t the first time Nike have looked back to the Cortez this year with a release of a version in February and the release of the beautiful Cortez Nylon collection back in March. But the ’72 is the best looking to date and is high on our shopping list.
The Nike Cortez ’72 arrives once again on Thursday 24th September at selected NikeLab retailers. Be sure to keep an eye out on the Nike Website for more stocklist details as they arrive!
