Omega Unveil Winter Olympics-Inspired Watch Straps
The PyeongChang Winter Olympics are in full swing, and to celebrate the occasion premium watch brand Omega have just unveiled a set of NATO watch straps inspired by the flags of nations competing in the Games – perfect if you want to show some subtle patriotism!
Personally speaking, we’ve always liked changing our watch straps once in a while – especially if we’re going from the office to a more formal occasion. And given the Olympics are being shown almost 24/7, Omega’s new NATO canvas straps couldn’t be more apt for the occasion.
The NATO actually evolved from the leather and canvas ones used by British pilots, navigators and army personnel during WWII. For safety reasons, wristwatches used fixed bars, which were often soldered and therefore less likely to break than spring bars. Of course, this meant that the straps were created in a single piece that slid through the fixed bars.
Omega’s NATO watch strap is being offered in 18 different versions. Each of which indicates a different country, including the likes of USA, France, Germany, and host nation South Korea, as well as 6 straps in the colours of the Olympic rings.
Each strap is made of polyamide, a textile made of synthetic fibres that offers good tensile strength as well as resistance to abrasion. They also feature polished stainless steel buckles and keepers which are positioned for extra comfort.
