Penfield have been providing quality outdoorwear since it was founded in New England in 1975. The brand is now back with its Spring/Summer 2015 collection.
The Penfield Spring/Summer 15 collection continues to draw from the company’s New England heritage with contemporary twists and enhanced technical detailing, for a sleek and coherent range that features a hint of the tropics and classic trailwear for Life in the Open enthusiasts. We tested out a couple of pieces for size.
Our favourite in the collection is without a doubt the Rochester jacket in Royal Blue which comes in at £100.00. The Rochester is constructed from DWR Nylon Taslon, a fully breathable fabric that holds its shape, dries quickly and remove moistures from the body, working with the mesh lining to keep you cool and ensures no unwanted sweat. To adapt to all weathers, the Rochester features a zip-away hood, elasticated cuffs and adjustable hem cinch to create a neat fit and three pockets with contrasting easy-to-grip White rubber buttons.
This classic rain jacket is extremely lightweight and incredibly breathable, which a problem we often find with a springtime jacket. The Rochester is perfect for any occasion and any weather so can be worn throughout Spring and Summer, which is handy with Blighty’s ever-changing skies. We found out it was sufficiently waterproof the hard way after a walk home from the pub!
Tees are also a must in the warmer seasons and we recommend the graphic printed Diver tee in Grey Melange for £35.00. It’s from single jersey and features a large diver graphic print across the chest. While the graphic may be a little big, we found it certainly didn’t dominate our look, with a simple colour scheme that will be compatible with pretty much any outfit. The rib neck also allows you to pull the t-shirt on and off with ease.
Summer is coming so you’re going to need some shorts. Penfield’s Grafton shorts in Tan are an option at £65.00. Made from durable cotton twill that has been washed so they’re perfectly comfortable, the Grafton has a simple chino construction and features a discreet micro zip coin pocket at the waist, which was pretty perfect for the pub…
We luckily got these just as it started to heat up and we found they were a good fit, although we would have preferred them to be a little shorter. The fluorescent lining will although split the crowd. In terms of style, though, they’re a perfect fit with the Rochester jacket. Overall we liked them but not sure we can justify the price tag.
We remain big fans of Penfield, so you we think you should check out the whole collection at the Penfield Website.
