Top 5 Spring Jackets for 2016
With temperatures starting to sore, you’d be forgiven for leaving the house in just your shorts, tee shirt and Ray Bans. But this being the UK, you know as well as we that our weather very much changes every hour, let alone every day. As such no matter what month, you’re going to need to be prepared for the inevitable moment when the heavens decide to open and things might turn a little bit chilly. As such we have put together our Top Spring / Summer jackets of 2016.
It can be a tricky business picking out a light jacket / rain mac for the summer. You need something lightweight to keep you cool, but it needs to be durable enough to keep the wind and wet out. Not to mention, doesn’t compromise on style. So we’re here to help with our top 5 spring jackets for summer 2016!
Penfield Gibson in Yellow, £120
We’re firm believers in taking some risks and adding some colour when it comes to your summer jackets, and we’ve always loved a solid Yellow waterproof. We think the best one around this summer is the Penfield Gibson. A Penfield classic, the Gibson’s minimal look and functional design make it a great all-rounder for the warmer months. Constructed from a Dry Wax, the densely woven fabric is windproof, extremely durable and, more importantly, also water resistant. Did we also mention you will look like a ruddy good bloke and a bit of an old sea fisherman??
Helly Hansen Ask Canvas Duffel Coat in Red, £600
If you really want to push the boat out this summer, we absolutely love this duffel coat in Red from Helly Hansen. Having a Scandinavian and sailing heritage, Helly Hansen know what they’re doing when it comes to jackets and the Ask Canvas Duffel Coat is a standout with authentic marine style and performance. The coat features a custom laminated canvas fabric with waterproof technology, as well as a breathable membrane to keep things cool. There’s some nice design touches too such as the custom duffle buckle which is tribute to the modern racing yacht.
Patagonia Alpine Houdini in Grey/Black, £95
For something you can easily pack away and carry around, this Patagonia Alpine Houdini is lightweight, stylish and, of course, waterproof. The Houdini stuffs into its own chest pocket for easy carrying and features a DWR treatment for extra water protection, as well as a sophisticated front zipper which locks away any moisture trying to creep in. As this jacket is likely to be stored in your bag at some point, Patagonia have donned it with 30D nylon fabric too, which is durable enough to withstand any inevitable scuffs.
Timberland Grass Mountain Mac in Blue, £180
We couldn’t have a summer jacket run-down without featuring at least one mac now, could we? Our favourite around is this simple, paired-back Grass Mountain Mac by Timberland. This mac incorporates waterproof DryVent technology, which means you’ll stay cool as well as stay protected from the elements. We love the sleek design and tailored lines on this mid-thigh length raincoat and think it’s perfect for Joes who need something for days at the office. It also comes with a detachable hood and a concealed zip for some extra storage.
North Ridge Mens Hybrid Down Jacket, £130
There is something about an insulated down jacket that just looks warm! And this from North Ridge / Go Outdoors in a perfect packaway for Spring. Water Resistant but that doesn’t even matter, filled with hydrophobic down, even soaked through this jacket retains it’s heat qualities. If you like an outdoor look to your wares, then this is for you.
