7 Landscape Lovers You Need to Follow on Instagram
We’d all love to get out into nature more, but busy work and family schedules often means the closest we get to hitting the wilderness is on our phones. So whether you’re planning your next big adventure or just need to see some scenery other than the cranes from your office window, check out our favourite nature photography accounts on Instagram.
Chris Burkard (@chrisburkard)
With 2.9 million followers, the undisputed King of Instagram when it comes to landscape photography is undoubtedly Chris Burkard. The nature photographer works to capture stories ‘that inspire humans to consider their relationship with nature, while promoting the preservation of wild places everywhere.’ Scrolling through Burkard’s feed is like taking a mini-vacation in itself through some of the planet’s most incredible landscapes. He’s a keen surfer too – and even did a Ted talk called ‘The Joy of Surfing in Ice-Cold Water’ – so his amazing aquatic images are reason enough to start following.
Greenland at night can have moments of unreal joy mixed with hints of slight fear. After making it to the small island in total darkness a group of us stayed within yelling distance as the northern lights crept overhead. Without a headlamp the slippery frozen seaweed & rocks would have made you immobile. And although unlikely, the thought of polar bears seems to creep into your mind. I love straddling that line where comfort and discomfort meet. On our way back captain Siggi turned the lights on the @auroraarktika to illuminate our path. A literal nightlight for us. This was the moment I remember the most from my first trip to the east fjords.
Alex Strohl (@alexstrohl)
With a mix of beautiful scenery as well as intimate morning views from his tent, French photographer Alex Strohl’s Instagram feed plays out like one epic road movie. He’s based in Whitefish, Montana, but shoots all over the world from the Norwegian fjords to the plains of Patagonia with his life-partner Andrea Dabene, who is well worth a follow as well. Strohl’s photography has been featured in publications such as Forbes, Vanity Fair, and Gentleman’s Journal.
Max Rive (@maxrivephotography)
IPA Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015, Max Rive was born and raised in the flats of the Netherlands. But after visiting the high mountains of Switzerland at the age of 5, Rive found a deep passion for mountains and landscapes – and thank God he did. His Instagram feed contains the fruits of his photography tours to likes of China, Russia, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, Peru and New Zealand. Through his tours, Max’s produces images that are as dramatic as they are unique, and offer a humbling perspective on the vastness and staggering beauty of the natural world.
Dave & Deb Travel (@theplanetd)
Make your way around the world with Dave and Deb, travel bloggers who live by the inclusive motto ‘adventure is for everyone.’ The duo are essentially living every adventurer’s dream having packed in their jobs to travel around the world, capturing moments with photography and blog posts. But if giving it all up isn’t an option, their Instagram feed will come a close second with Dave and Deb often capturing the small moments as well as the landscapes that make travelling such a transformative experience.
Following the path to paradise in The Maldives. ——- We had always wanted to visit this island paradise and when we were in Sri Lanka in 2016 we took advantage of how close it was and spent a week on 2 different resorts. The Maldives lived up to all of my expectations especially the @cinnamonhotels Hakuraa Huraa. This shot was what the sunsets were like every night! ——– Camera: Sony A7RII Lens: 16-35mm F4 F/11 125 seconds ——– #maldives #sonyalpha
Claire Droppert (@claireonline)
Another Dutch landscape photographer who needs to be followed in Claire Droppert. Focusing on the stillness and tranquillity of nature, Droppert has clear attraction to simplicity and minimalism with images of desolate and open spaces. The photography, however, is anything but desolate, with soft lighting playing an important role in her images. If travelling for you is all about cleansing and destressing, a quick scroll through Droppert’s photos is guaranteed to send you into the perfect daydream.
Michael Shainblum (@shainblumphotography)
Michael Shainblum is a landscape, timelapse and aerial photographer based in San Francisco, California. Having worked professionally as a photographer and filmmaker since the age of 16, Shainblum made a name for himself through a unique ability to capture moments in his distinct style of surreal, visual story telling. With much of his feed featuring incredible star constellations, Michael’s work has been published by the likes of National Geographic, Wired Magazine and The Weather Channel.
Hannes Becker (@hannes_becker)
Chris Burkard may have more followers, but our favourite follow for landscape photography on Instagram is Hannes Becker. Based in Hesse, Germany, Becker is a freelance photographer who specialises in adventures. Capturing the most stunning scenery from New Zealand to Hong Kong, Becker’s ability to fuse the vastness of the natural world with the intimacy of travelling sets him apart from the rest.
