Aloft London ExCel Review

Aloft London ExCel is a bold and contemporary new hotel featuring 252 loft inspired guest rooms in the heart of London’s Docklands. Read on for our Aloft London ExCel Review.

One of the Starwood Hotels brands (which encompasses Le Meridien, W Hotels and the St Regis Brands to name a few) the Aloft London Excel is the first of its brand in the UK. It is in close proximity to the ExCel conference and exhibition centre, London City Airport, Canary Wharf and a stones throw from the up and coming areas of London’s East End. The hotel features a modern grab-and-go pantry, funky interior reception areas, a bar-come-restaurant as well as a gym and splash pool.

The exterior of the hotel is stunning aesthetically. Half the hotel is clad in a skin of purple, green and magenta tiles, with clean lines and modern architecture really making the hotel stand out from its surroundings. The other half is floor-to-sky glass and continues the organic flow of the skin clad section. Coming off the DLR, you really can’t miss it, and it’s literally just a fall down the stairs and right to the front door.

Rooms wise, the guest spaces come with large windows with fabulous view over the Thames, London and beyond (also the very best blackout blinds known to man!). There are options of suites, king, or double queen rooms, and all come with walk in showers, free WiFi and a very useful plug and play connectivity station which allows you to charge your gadgets, as well as hooking up to the 42” LCD TV with AV and HDMI ports (plus free wi-fi).

The colour scheme throughout the hotel is what stands out. The décor is fresh and funky with vivid oranges, greens and magentas working seamlessly with earthy tones and brought together by striped upholstery and light fittings.

Although we were worried it was slightly out of town and perhaps a little ‘business’, with DLR links to central London on the doorstep at Prince Regent it is not difficult at all to get around, and we managed to get a cab from Hoxton in just over 20 minutes, so it is surprisingly quick. All things considered the Aloft London ExCel really is a jewel in the London Docklands, and we for one were pleasantly surprised.

Rooms start from £319 and you can book them at Aloft London Excel.
