Treat Yourself to Some Eco-Luxury at Dômes Charlevoix in Quebec
Sustainability and conservation are becoming ever more important when it comes to our travel choices. And one of the coolest eco-accommodations we’ve seen in recent years are these luxury eco-domes located on a hillside forest in Quebec, Canada.
Dômes Charlevoix takes the 5-star accommodation experience and puts it right in the heart of nature. Comprising of three geodesic domes, the lodgings are designed for the harsh northern climate of Quebec and offer stunning views down the mountainside to the nearby Saint Lawrence River.
Each dome caters for 4 people with all the amenities of a cottage taken care of, such as a full kitchen, a refined bathroom, a fireplace, a large terrace and a private spa. The spaces’ tent-like material peels back to create large windows in the primary bedroom, while a mezzanine offers a second queen bed and a breath-taking views through the domes.
Designed by Canadian firm Bourgeois/Lechasseur, each holiday cabins was built to make little impact on the natural surroundings as possible, as well as a minimal footprint. The domes frame is covered with pale grey canvas and extra insulation enables the cabins to be inhabited year round, even in northern Quebec’s notoriously cold winters.
Black boxes are inserted in the middle of circular abodes, concealing bathrooms inside and small kitchenettes built into the exterior. Heating is provided by black wood-burning stoves, while outside wooden platforms extend to form decks where guests can dine al fresco or bathe in hot tubs.
Located halfway between Baie-Saint-Paul and Le Massif de Charlevoix, the Dômes Charlevoix are ideally located to discover the Charlevoix region and are available for £161 a night with a minimum stay of 2 nights. Find out more here.
