Stay in a Snow Igloo in Lapland with Airbnb
We’re always on the lookout for the most interesting travel accommodation on the planet, and more often than not our search takes us to Scandinavia. And while the Lucky Ranch Snow Igloo in Lapland might not offer much in the way of amenities, it’s almost guaranteed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Located on a horse farm in the Pelkosenniemi region of Finland, the Snow Igloo on Lucky Ranch is a genuine snow-packed hut that’s built new every winter for travellers to visit. Temperatures inside the igloo are always below zero (°C) to stop your walls from melting, but there is a strong chance of dancing Northern Lights overhead.
The experience at the Snow Igloo is all about getting back to wilderness, so while sleeping bags and a mattress are provided, Lucky Ranch suggest you should bring your own thermos layers, hats, thick socks and coats.
That said, if things do get unbearably chilly, there is warm apartment available 24 hours with toilets, shower, living room and small kitchen (with microwave and fridge but no oven or stove) that guests are free to use. Guests will also be treated to a ‘light self-service breakfast’.
Though all local supermarkets and restaurants are a drive away, there is a ski resort only 10kms away from Lucky Ranch. The igloos are also located close to Lake Pyhäjärvi and Pyhä-Luosto National Park which provide numerous snow-orientated activity options.
The Lucky Ranch Snow Igloo is available to book now over at Airbnb for £115 a night.
If you want to see the Northern Lights in a more hospitable Nordic abode, take a look at the Panorama Glass Lodge in Iceland which offers uninterrupted views of the night’s sky.
