Shimao Wonderland InterContinental Hotel, Shanghai
The 5-star Shimao Wonderland InterContinental Hotel in Shanghai is going to be built inside a 100m deep, water-filled abandoned quarry with features including rooms that have been submerged under the basin! We think this may well be one of our favourite looking hotels in the last few years.
The hotel will feature 380 rooms and 19 storeys – two of which will feature room with a views under the water. If that’s not enough aquamarine, naturally there’ll also be a gigantic aquarium located within the glass walls of the hotel too!
A walkway along the perimeter of the quarry/hotel will be added to provide guests with a stunning look at the hotel cascading off the cliff. Due to the location, there’ll be plenty of for the adventurous Joe to do too with watersports available on the lake and rock-climbing and bungee jumping on the nearby cliffs.
Shimao Wonderland is located in the western suburbs of Shanghai City in the Songjiang District and is historically renowned for the stunning ‘Jiufeng sanmao-nine peaks and three rivers’ in the region.
Construction has begun on the Shimao Wonderland in China at the base of the Tianmenshan Mountain. The cave hotel will cost £345million to construct and has been designed by British firm Atkins.
The Shimao Wonderland InterContinental Hotel is currently being built and is expected to be completed by 2017, 2 years after the originally expected completion date this year. Rooms are likely to cost around £200 a night.
