Known for their watches, bicycles, journals, leather goods, and even cola drinks, luxury good brand Shinola can’t ever be accused of playing it safe. And to illustrate the point, they’ve just opened their first-ever hotel in their hometown of Detroit. Take a look inside…
Found in Downtown Detroit, the Shinola Hotel combines the old T.B. Rayl & Co. department store and a former Singer sewing-machine store, as well as three brand new buildings modelled after downtown’s historic architecture, and is defined by ‘a timeless sense of style, approachable service, and an obsession with quality craftsmanship.’
Designed by Gachot Studios and Kraemer Design Group, the hotel’s 129 rooms are thoughtfully designed with varied layouts and feature handcrafted millwork, mid-century modern furniture, and wallpaper inspired by patterns found during the renovation process for a real a residential feel.
Each dog-friendly room ranges in size, starting with the ‘Study Queen’ which features hardwood flooring, custom décor and curated amenities, while views of the city are provided in the likes of the Penthouse which also comes with private terraces, as well as a Shinola turntable and a curated vinyl collection for your entertainment.
The Shinola Hotel also features some of the best new restaurants in Detroit, including Southern Italian restaurant San Morello by chef Andrew Carmellini, a beer hall and Penny Red’s serving Detroit-style fried chicken. Meanwhile, there’s also on-site shopping in ‘Parker’s Alley’ which houses local brands like Drought and Good Neighbor.
Located at 1400 Woodward Avenue, the Shinola Hotel is now open with rooms starting at around £195 a night. Find out more over at the Shinola Hotel Website.
