Van Gogh’s Bedroom on Airbnb
The Art Institute of Chicago is currently holding an exhibition which hosts all three of Vincent Van Gogh’s bedroom paintings from the 19th century. To mark the occasion, they’re also offering Joes and Janes a chance to stay in a replica of the Dutch master’s bedroom through Airbnb!
The recreation of the room includes all the details of the original painting, arranged in haphazard alignment to imitate the original room. The idea is to ‘make you feel like you’re living in a painting.’ It’s decorated in a similarly Post-Impressionist style with bright colours, odd angles and artwork that’s depicted in the painting.
The original painting dates back to 1889 and depicts Van Gogh’s bedroom at 2, Place Lamartine in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France, known as his Yellow House. He titled it simply ‘The Bedroom’ and it’s since become one of the most iconic works from Post-Impressionist period.
According to Airbnb, the replica bedroom comes with internet and TV, as well as access to a washing machine/dryer and even a gym! That’s because the room itself is located outside of the museum’s campus in Chicago’s neighbourhood of River North.
The best bit about the Van Gogh’s Bedroom on Airbnb is extremely affordable with the Institution only charging $10 (£7) ‘for no other reason than that I need to buy paint.’ You’ll also get a couple of tickets for exhibition thrown in.
The exhibition itself features approximately 36 works by the artist and will run through until 10th May and marks the first time all three Bedroom paintings will be in the same space in North America. Head over to the Airbnb Website for more details.
