Wheat Youth Arts Hotel, China
Continuing our search for the best hotels around the planet, we come across this contemporary beauty in Hangzhou, China. Custom-made artworks as far as the eye can see in this hotel which has been designed by Shanghai design studio X+Living.
The Wheat Youth Arts Hotel is located on the seventh floor of a shopping centre in the Binjiang district of Hangzhou and features modern interiors and furniture in its set of social spaces designed to encourage younger guests to visit the region and hotel.
The interiors of the Wheat Youth Arts Hotel are akin to an art gallery with blank canvases to hang unusual art objects on the walls. There are examples throughout the hotel, including a coffee shop with seven wooden figures falling from the sky with parachutes and a games room topped with a web of black lines.
The lobby is the main hub of the hotel with room for lounging and studying areas, complete with features like curved-top book shelves, Yellow seating encased in glass shells, and a black dog with a long lead marking out the reception desk. Artworks finish off the space such as a world map made from checkers pieces.
The corridors in the Wheat Youth Arts Hotel are far more minimal with White-painted walls dominating. Being a contemporary hotel, however, there are still interesting features such as Pink bicycles and colourful, upturned checkers pieces hanging from the ceiling.
Rooms in the hotel each have wooden doors and come with a desk, bed, clothing rail and art easel all made out of light timber. Finished in a variety of colours, all bedrooms come with an open-plan bathroom and televisions are revealed behind paintings – in keeping with the hotel’s gallery theme.
The Wheat Youth Arts Hotel is due to open within the next few weeks. Photography is by Shao Feng.
