A room with a view is always on our list when we’re looking to travel. And nothing commands attention more than room with a clifftop view. So we thought we’d put a list together of some of the best clifftop accommodations around. From California to Cape Town to the Amalfi Coast, hang out at some of the world’s best clifftop hotels!
Jade Mountain Resort – St Lucia
We’re starting off with luxury and arguable the ultimate clifftop hotel around. Take a look St Lucia’s breath-taking Jade Mountain Resort. The resort perches off the edge of a lush volcanic cliff, but as well as views of the surrounding crystal clear Caribbean Sea, you’ll also get stunning views over St. Lucia’s Piton Mountains. The views are uninterrupted too thanks to Jade Mountain’s 24 infinity pool suites.
Iconic Santorini – Santorini, Greece
The Iconic Santorini has a reputation like no other on our list and for very good reason. The distinctive boutique cave hotel is located on the beautiful island of Santorini, in the charming and picturesque village of Imerovigli. The spectacular hillside setting is literally carved into volcanic rock and presents a panoramic of the surrounding Aegean Sea from all five levels of the hotel. The Iconic Sanotrini is all about relaxation and luxury with each guest getting their own personal veranda and a refined atmosphere.
Cape View Clifton – Cape Town, South Africa
If you want a tranquil getaway with the option of some crowds and culture, Cape Town’s Cape View Clifton couldn’t be more idyllically placed. Only an hours’ walk from the city centre, the low-key Cape View Clifton offers Joes and Janes a boutique hotel with the tranquillity of only seven rooms, making it the perfect cliff-side hideout. The hotel boasts stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean as well as the Twelve Apostles, and there’s even four unspoiled beaches located right beneath the hotel.
Monastero Santa Rosa – Amalfi Coast, Italy
We could have chosen numerous clifftop hotels on Italy’s Amalfi Coast but we think the most spectacular is the Monastero Santa Rosa. Perched high above the fishing village of Conca dei Marini, as the named suggests this luxury hotel was formerly a 17th-century monastery, and needless to say the views over the Tyrrhenian Sea 660-feet below are incredible. The secluded and exclusive hotel has only 20 rooms and features four levels of lush gardens. Picturesque probably doesn’t do Santa Rosa justice!
Cliff House Hotel – Ardmore, Ireland
While Ireland might not be the first destination you’ll be thinking of when it comes to clifftop hotels, the aptly-named Cliff House is one of Europe’s most scenic. Overlooking Ardmore Bay, County Waterford, in South-East Ireland, the contemporary hotel is maybe the most architecturally impressive on our list with angular slate-and-glass dominating the design. The hotel has 40 sun-drenched rooms, each with stunning bay views.
Clifftop Club Auli – Auli, India
Now while it’s certainly not the most luxurious hotel on our list, the Clifftop Club Auli in northern India certainly takes ‘clifftop’ to the next level. Located in the Garhwal Himalayas, the luxurious ski resort is 10,000 ft. above sea level making it the second highest located resort in the world. Not only that, it’s the only skiing resort in Asia which is located right on the ski slope. With a 270-degree view of the snow-capped Nanda Devi range, this might be the best winter-friendly clifftop hotel on the planet.
Bulgari Resort – Bali, Indonesia
Now back to warmer climates and the Bulgari Resort in Bali. Located in the Bukit Peninsula – and one of the most exclusive destinations in the world – the gorgeous Bulgari Resort perches 500-feet over the Indian Ocean. There’s show-stopping ocean views from basically wherever you are, including the resort’s infinity pool and any of its four bars and restaurants. Rather awesomely, there’s also a secluded beach beneath the hotel which is only accessible by a glass elevator which takes you down the cliff face.
Post Ranch Inn – California, USA
One of the most spectacular cliff stretches on the planet is undeniably Cali’s Big Sur. Naturally there’s a plethora of hotels stretching all the way from Carmel to San Simeon, but we’d recommend the Post Rach Inn. Sat 1200-feet atop of the Pacific Ocean, the Post Ranch Inn is ideal for romance, relaxation or rejuvenation. The 39 rooms at the Inn blend rustic elegance, comfort and privacy with panoramic ocean or mountain views. As well as the obvious three pools, there’s a spa and a renowned restaurant on site too.
