The latest project from famed London studio Zaha Hadid Arcitects (ZHA) has just opened in Macau, China. Featuring three punctured holes in its façade, the twisting geometric patterns on the Morpheus hotel are like nothing we’ve ever seen on such a scale, with ZHA calling it ‘world’s first free-form high-rise exoskeleton.’

Zaha Hadid's Staggering Morpheus Hotel Has Just Opened in Macau

The ZHA Morpheus hotel has just opened in Macau, having been under constructed since 2012. Using existing foundations, the architects designed a 40-storey building which is characterised by three cut-out sections in the middle of the building, which are intended to create an ‘urban window’ into the city.

The hotel is formed of two circulation cores that connect at the base and then merge again at rooftop level. An atrium runs the height of the hotel between these two towers, and the hotel’s restaurant lounges and bars are located on bridges which run through the central void.

The Morpheus is served by twelve glass elevators, which are designed to give guests panoramic views of the hotel’s geometric interiors. There are 770 guest rooms in total, along with suites and sky villas, and a spa and pool found at the rooftop.

The exoskeleton form of the hotel means that numerous free flowing spaces are created in the hotel, with interior furnishings and sculptures adding to the intrigue. There’s even a special “Good Intentions” installation from famed artist KAWS.

The Morpheus Hotel makes up part of Macau’s ‘City of Dreams’ resort, which also includes casinos, cinemas, a shopping district, 20 restaurants and four hotels. Head over to the Morpheus Website for more information.
