adidas Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Adam Sandler’s ‘The Waterboy’
Does anyone remember when an awkward water carrier by the name of Bobby Boucher showed up to the Bourbon Bowl at halftime won it for the Mud Dogs? Well, so does adidas. And to honour one of the great sporting events of our time, the Three Stripes will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Adam Sandler’s role in ‘The Waterboy’ by launching a capsule collection in SCLSU Mud Dogs blue and orange!
If you’ve never seen The Waterboy, you best get down to Blockbuster now. Adam Sandler’s 1998 film sees waterboy Bobby Boucher leave the sidelines to become a college football legend. Basically it’s his best ever and to celebrate 20 years since its release, adidas have unveiled a selection of sporting gear branded with logos taken directly from the film’s fictional uni, South Central Louisiana State University.
In the collection, you’ll find SCLSU logos appear on a special football jersey, a varsity jacket, a cap and, of course, a water bottle, complete with ‘Boucher’ naming. The team’s colours adorn each piece, with contrasting blue, orange and white featuring alongside Boucher’s number 9 and a ‘Bourbon Bowl’ patch on the jersey.
adidas are clearly serious about this release and have even joined forces with American Football specialists Riddell for an extremely limited edition helmet which comes with yet more SCLSU branding and the logo of the fictional school’s mascot, the Mud Dog.
The adidas 20th Anniversary ‘The Waterboy’ collection is set to drop on Thursday 18th October at Louisiana’s Sneaker Politics. But if you can’t make it over to the Bayou, it will also hit the adidas Website on Friday 19th October.
It’s not the first time adidas have released capsules from cult films either. Last year the Three Stripes unveiled a new Rom itineration inspired by one’s of Wes Anderson’s most iconic films, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
