adidas Unveil Pink Man Utd Away Kit for the 2018/2019 Season
For the first time in their history, Manchester United will wear pink shirts after the club’s new away kit was unveiled by adidas Football. Similar to the Juventus away kit from the 2015/16 season which was famously favoured by the likes of Drake, the kit is inspired by Manchester’s now defunct newspaper, The Football Pink.
A new kit might not be the good news United fans were looking for after a poor start to the season, losing two of their first three games. But the new pink adidas away kit does have the potential to become a bit of a cult classic following the success of Juve’s pink strip three years ago.
The new away kit was inspired by ‘The Football Pink’. A favourite among United fans, The Football Pink was created by the Manchester Evening News and went out on Saturday afternoons until its untimely closure in 2007 due to a lack of profit.
Featuring a new reworked performance silhouette, the new kit design combines a colour part of United’s rich football heritage with a contemporary pastel colourway which has seen somewhat of a revival in recent years. Even if you’re not a fan, we can all agree it’s better than United’s shaded home shirt this season.
United fans certainly seen to have taken to the pink idea with the matchday programme for Monday’s game against Tottenham including a wrap-around with the headline of ‘The Pink is back!’ The front page of the United Review said; “Its legacy endures and this season The Pink rides again […] Not just in the hearts and minds of the fans, but on the backs of their heroes too.”
The new pink adidas Manchester United 2018/2019 Away Kit will be on general sale on Thursday 13th September at the United Store as well as on the adidas Website.
Earlier this year, adidas continued its collaboration with environmental initiative Parley for the Oceans by creating a kit for Manchester United made from recycled ocean plastic.
