Today sees the launch of the next generation of tech-laden sports equipment from adidas, the adidas miCoach Smart Football is set to lead the way in training aids for footballers for years to come, and is like no other. With Bluetooth 4.0 and an accelerometer fitted inside the ball, players can link up the Smart Ball to the miCoach app where every strike of the ball will capture and relay data back to the app.
Designed specifically for deadball situations such as corners, free-kicks, penalties, goal kicks and long passes, the Smart Ball app will help players to adapt their technique using real time data and feedback through an iOS app (no word of an Android app yet). The app can deliver dedicated training sessions for specific scenarios to help players master key aspects of their game. The ability to challenge yourself through the app is a really crucial element to allow users to develop and become better players. Something that certain aspects of English football certainly needs (World Cup and Penalties anyone??).
This sort of feedback analysis is becoming more and more important in almost every sport, and we can really see this helping the younger generation develop and refine their technique and ability in certain situations. And of course with the worldwide adoption of smartphones this really is a next level training device. We can see this ball and technology being used in professional academies around the World, but with a starting price of £249.95/$299 we doubt you will see too many of these Smart Balls down your local park any time soon.
