Best Places to Watch the Super Bowl in London
The Super Bowl takes places this weekend as the Carolina Panthers take on the Denver Broncos, and that means Joes up and down the country struggling to stay awake as they tuck into their fifth hot dog while pretending they know what ‘Shotgun Formation’ means!
In all seriousness, staying up until 5am can be a struggle unless you’ve done some tactical sleep pattern planning. So we say get out of the house and go hit one of London’s many venues that will be hosting parties for the event. The atmosphere alone will be enough to see you through until sunlight! Here’s some of the best of them…
Balthazar, Covent Garden
If you want to watch the Super Bowl in style, head to Covent Garden where the whole of Balthazar restaurant will be transformed into the ultimate, luxury Super Bowl space with the emphasis on luxury. Five giant screens have been installed complete with top-of-the-line surround sound. They’ll also be special guests including The London Warriors, London’s leading American Football Team.
Tickets are £50 and that includes a welcome cocktail, unlimited tea and coffee to keep you awake, free popcorn all night and dishes from executive chef Robert Reid all in keeping with the American theme; including Sliders with Cheese, Sticky BBQ Wings and Chilli Beef Nachos to name but a few.
Electric Ballroom, Camden
For something a little edgier, one of London’s best gig venues, Electric Ballroom, will be hosting a bash in association with American Freshman. As well as a huge sound system and screen showing the game, there’ll be music provided by none other than the DJ Yoda. We did say this would be alternative!
There’ll also be some great food being provided by stalls from Camden Market as well as some sweet, tender meats on offer from Austen’s BBQ. There’s also an Instagram photo booth, whatever that is!
Joe’s Southern Kitchen, Covent Garden
For something on the cheaper side centrally, Joe’s Southern Kitchen in Covent Garden provides a nice alternative to Balthazar’s. The big game will be shown live across several super large screens with hearty Joe’s Southern food being served up until the early hours!
Entry tickets start at £10 and that includes a Huber Beer but if you want to guarantee yourself a seat, you can grab a ticket for £25, which also includes a Huber Beer and a platter of Hot Dogs, Fried Chicken and Fries!
Jetlag Sports Bar, Fitzrovia
For us, one of London’s best sports bars in Central London is Jetlag. Showing anything and everything from big Prem games to obscure college basketball, Jetlag is the ideal spot for Super Bowl 50. The party starts from 10pm and their menu includes sliders, BBQ ribs, jerk wings, coconut shrimp and nachos.
You can get all-inclusive food and drink packages with guaranteed seat with prices starting at £20 which includes a couple of drinks. Did we mention there’ll also be some lovely cheerleaders on hand to welcome guests and take photos?
Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, Euston
If you’re having to bring along some friends along who aren’t really into the night’s festivities, barring maybe the Half Time Show, we’d recommend you head to the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes. The Super Bowl has got bigger and better in recent years at Bloomsbury with the venue opening up all of its three floors and HD screens to the event.
Naturally, there’ll be some great American food on offer, but if you’re with Joes and Janes who aren’t bothered about the result, Bloomsbury Lanes has pool tables, beer pong tables, karaoke and of course, bowling. There’ll also be a Meet & Greet with an unnamed NFL Legend on the night too, and your £12 ticket will get you a free Bud and copy of Gridrion’s SB50 preview special!
Riley’s Sports Bar, Haymarket
The final venue on our list is one of London’s best known sports bars. Located a few minutes either side of Trafalgar Sq. and Piccadilly Circus, Riley’s Sports Bar has a capacity of nearly 600 and always promises one of the best atmospheres in the capital for a big sporting event.
The food is decent enough – particularly the BBQ wings – and the pitchers of beer are a must here. There’s 32 HD TV screens and 5 projectors at Riley’s so even if you’re not lucky enough to get a booth, there’s no way you’ll miss the game. Super early bird tickets are available for £5.
