EPL Predictions & Team News 10-11 Nov 2012

As Jimmy Greaves used to say, in the pre-Premiership days ‘Football is a funny old game’ and it certainly turned out that way last weekend with only two teams winning in the top half of the table.

This week it looks to be about the sack race and which manager is going to go first. With Nigel Adkins ramping up the pressure on himself and Mark Hughes still winless over in Shepherds Bush, it would be great if they have a joust to the death next week when their two sides meet.

Arsenal v Fulham – 10 November 2012 – 15.00 KO

The Gunners were poor against Manchester United last week and ended up chasing shadows for 60 minutes in midweek against Shalke, although I am sure they would have taken a draw before the start of the game. The time has surely come for them to release Walcott’s pace up front from the start of a game. He may not give you much with his back to goal, but with the passing quality at their disposal in midfield it is surely only time before they break a one paced Fulham defence wide open. Fulham have managed to sneak up to 8th in the table and go into the game on level points with Arsenal.

Team News: Wilshere is suspended for Arsenal after his sending off last weekend and The Ox is rated as 50/50. Ramsey is also a doubt. Martin Jol rates Mo Diarra as doubtful.
Betting Prediction: 2-0
Dream Team Star Man: Theo Walcott

Everton v Sunderland – 10 November 2012 – 15.00 KO

Last week must have been a nightmare for goal shy Makem fans, if you can’t beat Villa at home this season, it looks like you are in for a long few winter months. Normally it’s Everton who are struggling for goals in the run up to Christmas, but they have improved beyond recognition in that department this year. Will Leon Osman chip in with one to celebrate his England call-up?

Team News: Good news for David Moyes with no new problems, whilst Titus Bramble could feature for Black Cats for the first time in 3 weeks.
Betting Prediction: 1-0
Dream Team Star Man: Leon Osman

Reading v Norwich – 10 November 2012 – 15.00 KO

The Waitrose Derby!! (Reading Sponsor and Norwich’s Fairy-Godmother does their TV ads). Both of these teams have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous this season and at times have conceded goals for fun. Brian McDermott must get Reading to winning ways soon as if I’ve learnt anything from Bond films, Russian bosses aren’t the most patient when looking for results.

Team News: Danny Guthrie is almost certainly out for Reading, whilst Garrido, Martin and Turner all require fitness tests for the Canaries.
Betting Prediction: 2-1
Dream team Star Man: Pavel Pogrebnyak

Southampton v Swansea – 10 November 2012 -15.00 KO

The Saints are now bottom of the EPL with only one win to their name, a manager who says he is favourite to be sacked next and a defence with more holes in it than (insert your own joke here!). However this is a great chance for them to go on a mini run, the Swans will let them play football and we know the saints can create chances, it’s just whether they finish more than the defence concede.

Team News: A bonus for Saints as they have no new problems, whilst Chico still requires more time to recover from his thigh injury for Swansea.
Betting Prediction: 3-1
Dream Team Star Man: Rickie Lambert

Stoke v QPR – 10 November 2012 – 15.00 KO

Tony Pulis must be licking his lips after seeing QPRs attempts at defending set-pieces this season, and will be looking to put an ever changing Hoops back four to the test at every opportunity.

If Mark Hughes doesn’t take something from this game, you’ve got to wonder how many more chances Uncle Tony is going to give him. As for Mr Fernandes, you’ve got to wonder if this sports lark is harder than he thought; his Caterham F1 team are taking a lot longer to move forward than he would have liked and is his investment in QPR is not exactly heading in the right direction…

Team News:
Michael Owen looks like he is injured (and look out for his Mo!). Captain Park may return from injury for The Hoops but Mbia is still suspended.
Betting Prediction: 1-1
Dream Team Star Man: Peter Crouch

Wigan v West Bromwich Albion – 10 November 2012 -15.00 KO

Hats off to Roberto Martinez, he has managed six points in the last two games, and against two teams in the top half of the table. Currently his side are sitting pretty well out of the relegation zone. And you can’t knock the job Steve Clarke is doing at West Brom, 17 points already this season, however only 2 of these have come on their travels so look for Wigan to grab all three points.

Team News: McArthur is rated as 50/50 which is a blow for The Latics and on-loan Miyaichi is the same. Morrison and Reid should be fit for The Baggies.
Betting Prediction: 1-0
Dream Team Star Man: Franco Di Santo

Aston Villa v Manchester United – 10 November 2012– 17.30 KO

Villa surprised me last week going away to the North East and grabbing 3 points, but I can’t quite see them repeating that against a United team who currently sit on top of the tree without really hitting top gear. They have players coming back from injury as well, especially in the defence, and that’s an ominous sign for the rest of the league.

So it’s United to take all three points for me. And what do points make? That’s right, Premier League titles!

Team News:
Joe Bennett will miss out for Villa who also have a doubt over Darren Bent. Johnny Evans and Nani are slight doubts after picking up midweek knocks.
Betting Prediction: 0-1
Dream Team Star Man: Robin Van Persie

Manchester City v Tottenham – 11 November 2012 – 13.30 Ko

A repeat of the game that basically killed off Spurs’ title hopes last season when ‘Super’ Mario nabbed the winner. He hasn’t looked half as sharp this season and last week was goaded about being a poor man’s Paulo Wanchope!! Given Mancini’s gesture to him when he was subbed, he may have been agreeing.

Spurs fans will definitely be talking about the ‘Y’ word this weekend, probably more in terms of ‘Why have we got more keepers than forwards’ though.

Team News: Silva is very doubtful for City who may have better news on the fitness of Milner and Lescott. Sandro is Spurs’ main worry.
Betting Prediction: 2-0
Dream Team Star Man: Carlos Tevez

Newcastle v West Ham United – 11 November 2012 – 15.00 Ko

It wasn’t that long ago Newcastle were complaining about the Cockney mafia running the club, now it looks as if things have turned full circle and people have left the North East for the East End, with BFS, Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan all returning to St James.

Team News: Collicini is suspended for Newcastle but Hammers old boy Ba should be fit. West Ham have massive problems at the back themselves with Collins limping off in their last game and Tomkins failing a pre-match fitness test.
Betting Prediction: 2-0
Dream Team Star Man: Demba Ba

Chelsea v Liverpool – 11 November 2012 – 16.00 KO

Another of the TV planners favourite games from years gone past, when you could always rely on Mourinho or Benitez to stir things up, times have changed though and did we ever think we would see a Chelsea side with more flair in it than Liverpool?

Team News: Terry is back from his suspension, whilst Lampard is still a doubt for the home side. Liverpool had Glen Johnson return to training this week, but the real blessing is that Pepe Reina is fit again.
Betting Prediction: 2-1
Dream team Star Man: Eden Hazard

So there we have it, a full round up of this weekends Premier League Games, my betting predictions and who you should stick in as your dream team captain! Till next time!
