EPL Predictions & Team news 27/28th April

Well, if I am being perfectly honest the EPL has been a bit of an anti-climax this season. The title race has been decided with 5 fixtures to spare and 2 of the three relegation spots are nailed on, should we really be celebrating the battle for 4th place as something to sit back and enjoy? Sky Sports can’t even spice it up in effect they are showing effectively a Championship fixture in Reading v QPR this weekend!

Manchester City v West Ham United – Saturday 27 April 2013 – 1330KO

Pretty much a nothing fixture after City’s 10 mad minutes against Spurs last Sunday gifted United the title a week earlier than they would have expected. City did look like they had found the form of last season when beating United earlier in the month, but maybe now the players are just focusing on an FA Cup final medal now. Big Sam’s West Ham have improved a lot in the last month and are now unbeaten in 5, however their away form is still very questionable at best.

Premier League Team News: City have the trio of Milner, Silva and Aguero fully fit for this fixture whilst Micah Richards is still hoping for a run-out before the end of the season. Mark Noble could make his first start for The Irons since shoulder surgery, but McCartney and Tomkins are both out.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-0
Dream Team Star Man: Carlos Tevez

Everton v Fulham – Saturday 27 April 2013 – 1500KO

I honestly believed Everton were going to kick and shove their way into the battle for a Champions League place especially when they won 4 out of 5 games earlier in the month, however last week’s loss against Paolo di Canio’s Sunderland has pretty much put paid to that now. Fulham will be looking to try and get their noses back into the top half of the table before the season is out but will be without Steve Sidwell for the remainder of the season now after his 2nd red card of the season in successive matches. Sidwell had never seen red before, but like London buses two come along at once!

Premier League Team News: Jagielka and Darron Gibson are both carrying knocks ahead of this fixture, but boss David Moyes hopes both should start. Damian Duff and Frimpong both return for Fulham but as mentioned previously Sidwell is out suspended.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-0
Dream Team Star Man: Leon Osman

Southampton x West Bromwich Albion – Saturday 27 April 2013 – 1500KO

If you would have put The Saints second half of the season together with The Baggies first half, I suspect combined they would be knocking on Europe’s door. But I guess that proves how hard it is to maintain a push on a smaller budget. Southampton are now 6 unbeaten, and have a very good chance of making it a magnificent 7!!

Premier League Team News: Ward-Prowse apart, Southampton are at full-strength are at full strength for this fixture. The Baggies will have to do without skipper Chris Brunt although Billy Jones should have overcome a problem with a gash in his leg.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-0
Dream Team Star Man: Adam Lallana

Stoke v Norwich – Saturday 27 April 2013 – 1500KO

Which one of these sides let out the biggest sigh of relief last weekend? A win for either of these sides will pretty much secure EPL football for next season. Hughton has already shown his hand for next year in signing a relatively big name striker, but Tony Pulis’ position has been called into question so a morale ending finale to the season could help him out.

Premier League Team News: Matt Etherington’s back condition is again a problem for Stoke who will also have to check on Adam, Jerome and Wilson who have slight knocks. Turner is out for Norwich who have recalled Leon Barnett from a loan spell to compensate.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-0
Dream Team Star Man: Cameron Jerome

Wigan v Tottenham – Saturday 27 April 2013 – 1500KO

Without a doubt the most important fixture of the weekend, who would have thought it back in August! Wigan are now fully embroiled in their annual scrap against relegation, whilst Tottenham are now fully embroiled in their annual ‘let’s not throw away the previous 8 months good work’ battle. Spurs fans tell me they always trip up against Wigan, but I’m not so sure. Premier League Team News: Alcaraz is out for 3 weeks, but Roberto Martinez will reshape his side and bring in Jean Beausejour into the starting XI. Defoe will start in place of the much criticised Adebayor up-front and Aaron Lennon should be fit to start.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-3

Dream Team Star Man: Jermain Defoe

Newcastle v Liverpool – Saturday 27 April 2013 – 1730KO

Now the biggest test I have this week is, writing a preview on this game without doing a cheap pun about biting or having to rely on the previous classics this fixture has thrown up, but to be honest the only reason this has only been put on TV so the pundits have something to talk about pre-game and that hope that lightning strikes for a third time with another 7 goal fixture!

Premier League Team News: Tiote will start for Newcastle who could have Coloccini back on the bench for the first time in 2 months. Suarez starts his high-profile 10 game ban which will see him suspended until the end of September. Sturridge will replace him up front.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-2
Dream Team Star Man: Jordan Henderson.

Reading v QPR – Sunday 28 April 2013 – 1330KO

Pride, that is about all these two have left to play for, although out of the two Reading may be the better set-up to fight to go straight back up next year, as Kebe apart they should be able to keep most of their squad together. ‘Arry on the other hand is going to have a huge turnover of players, something he may be relishing! Premier League Team News: Kebe and Akpan are missing for The Royals whilst QPR are still without Zamora through suspension. Townsend has also picked up an injury and will join him in the stands.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 0-2
Dream Team Star Man: Loic Remy

Chelsea v Swansea – Sunday 28 April 2013 – 1500KO

It’s just as well Rafa Benitez likes rotating his squad, as his Chelsea side are in the middle of a fixture pile-up with 6 games in 15 days. But the problem is he has to pretty much win every game if Chelsea want to be sitting at Europe’s top table next season as opposed to slumming it in the UEFA cup with Swansea. The Swans themselves are 5 without a win, but have stopped the rot in the last couple of games with 2 draws.

Premier League Team News: Chelsea could rotate a lot of players so ‘fantasy’ managers be aware! Demba Ba will replace Torres up front after being cup-tied in midweek and Cahill is fit to start. Neil Taylor is nearing a return to the starting XI for the Swans who will look to play Michu in a more attacking role this weekend.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-2
Dream Team Star Man: Demba Ba

Arsenal v Manchester United – Sunday 28 April 2013 – 1600KO

Their seems to have been far too much press as to whether Arsenal will give the champions a guard of  honour before this fixture, and I’m glad Arsene Wenger has come out and said they will and he likes to uphold the traditions of English football. If I was a fan of any club I think I’d rather give a guard of honour to a rival, rather than see them win the title on your ground. Anyway, Arsenal have more important battles on the pitch and hope that the talk before the game focuses their players’ minds into gaining 3 points.

Premier League Team News: Oliver Girouds unsuccessful appeal against his red card against Fulham last weekend means that Walcott and Podolski are fighting it out for the striker’s role. Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to reward Javier Hernandez with a starting place this weekend.

Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-1
Dream Team Star Man: Theo Walcott

Aston Villa v Sunderland – Monday 29 April 2013 – 2000KO

Despite their back to back victories, Sunderland are still not quite out of the relegation battle and need another victory to secure their EPL place for next season, which at least will give us something to talk about with Paolo staying in the press!! Villa probably need this one more after their 3-0 loss at Old Trafford last week, but to be fair they did well to put the shutters up as I thought it was going to be at least double that at one stage!

Premier League Team News: Villa will be relieved they have no new injury problems after Gabby Agbonlahor came through 90 minutes last weekend. Craig Gardner returns for Sunderland against his old side after suspension whilst Phil Bardsley will have a late fitness test.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-0
Dream Team Star Man: Brad Guzan
