EPL Predictions & Team News 3-5 Nov
Last updated on November 15th, 2015 at 12:08 pm
Well, I said last week was going to be a ‘Super Sunday’ and it certainly lived up to the billing, 9 goals, 2 sending-offs, two police investigations and a hark back to the Klinsmann era by Luis Suarez in his goal celebration, and that was only in the TV matches! Add the quite unbelievable Capital One cup action in midweek and it’s been a quite amazing last 7 days. Ready to go again??
Manchester United v Arsenal – Saturday 3rd November 2012 – 12.45 KO
I’m not sure this quite lives up to the games of yesteryear with tunnel fracas before kick-off, and Martin Keown trying to impersonate Peter Cushing after Ruud Van Nistelrooy had missed from the spot. However, United have another easily abbreviated Dutch forward on show this time out in RVP, who of course left The Emirates at the start of the season which adds extra spice to this fixture. Both teams will be looking at tightening up at the back after seeing a combined total of 10 goals put past them in midweek.
Team News: Smalling is nearing fitness for United, whilst Gervinho misses out for the Gunners as he has picked up an ankle injury. The Ox could return though which will be a huge boost to the Gunners.
Betting Prediction: 2-1
Dream Team Star Man: Ashley Young
Fulham v Everton – Saturday 3rd November 2012 – 15.00 KO
Fulham certainly have the players to do a bit of entertaining, and in Berbatov have a player who has been top drawer for a number of years, and by last week’s showing against Reading is desperate to show he still is. Everton have gone off the boil in the last couple of weeks, but dug deep to haul themselves back into the Merseyside derby last time out.
Team News: Berbatov may have to have injections to get him through the game after suffering a rib injury and Chris Baird is struggling. Kevin Mirallas should return for Everton after picking up an injury in the Merseyside Derby.
Betting Prediction: 1-1
Dream team Star Man: Bryan Ruiz
Norwich v Stoke – Saturday 3rd November 2012 – 15.00 KO
Not sure what to say on this one, it really doesn’t set pulses racing! But, Norwich will be on top of the world after beating Spurs and Arsenal in the last few weeks and gaining a point away to Villa last weekend, while the draw factory that is Stoke will be trying to add some attacking impetus into their game against a side whose defence is somewhat unpredictable.
Team News: Canaries Russell Martin is rated as doubtful, whilst Marc Wilson is out for the visitors after suffering a suspected broken ankle last weekend.
Betting Prediction: 1-0
Dream Team Star Man: Grant Holt
Sunderland v Aston Villa – Saturday 3rd November 2012 – 15.00 KO
Last week it was the Paul Lambert facing one of his old clubs, and this time Martin O’Neill has that pleasure. The Irishman’s Black Cats have the lowest shots on goal ratio this season in the league, but I can see them improving that against a poor Villa side who survived a midweek scare against Swindon.
Team News: Larsson, Rose and Gardner are the home side’s main injury doubts whilst Villa have their own doubts over Clark and Baker. One player who will definitely miss the game is El Ahmadi who picked up his 5th booking in midweek.
Betting Prediction: 2-0
Dream Team Star Man: Adam Johnson
Swansea v Chelsea – Saturday 3rd November 2012 – 15.00 Ko
Swansea seem to have picked up again after a little lull, and in midweek showed how vulnerable Liverpool are going to be this season in their cup victory. Chelsea aren’t Liverpool though and are probably the most complete attacking force any team will face in the Premier League this season, as long as their players heads are over the last week I expect them to pass this trip to Wales with flying colours despite a few suspensions.
Team News: Ivanovic and Terry suspended but Torres should return after his ban. Lampard is also still injured. Chico may not have had time to recover from his midweek knock for the Swans.
Betting Prediction: 1-3
Dream Team Star Man: Oscar
Tottenham v Wigan – Saturday 3rd November 2012 – 15.00 KO
The home win will no doubt be the banker on most people’s coupon this week, and if it doesn’t go their way, the notoriously fickle home fans may start to ask questions. Spurs have a habit of letting sides back into games when they should be closing them out this season. Wigan have their own pressures after crashing out of the League Cup to lowly Bradford last time out.
Team News: Jake Livermore picked up a knock against Norwich and is doubtful, but Adebayor is primed for his first start of the season. Wigan have no new problems.
Betting Prediction: 4-1
Dream Team Star Man: Emmanuel Adebayor
West Ham v Manchester City – Saturday 3rd November 2012 – 17.30 KO
The Irons seem to be a permanent fixture with the TV planners on Saturdays and take up the pre-Strictly slot again, they certainly seem to be the broadcasters favourites.
City, by their standards, have been distinctly average recently and if a team can stop Yaya Toure playing, it seems to throw the Blues out of sync, so expect West Ham to flood the midfield even more so as usual.
Team News: Demel is the Hammers main worry, with Tomkins expected to continue at full-back. Micah Richards has added to City’s long injury list that already features Garcia, Maicon, Rodwell and Silva.
Betting Prediction: 1-1
Dream Team Star Man: Kevin Nolan
QPR v Reading – Sunday 4th November 2012 – 13.30 KO
Almost a quarter of the way through the season and neither of these sides have managed a Premier League win, it must be something about Hoops! After 40 minutes of Wednesdays Cup game, most people were thinking Reading were home and dry against Arsenal, but to concede 7 (SEVEN) after that must put doubts in Brian McDermott’s mind as to whether some of his players are cut out for this level.
Team News: Mbia is suspended after his sending of against Arsenal, and club captain Park is rated as 50/50. Jem Karacan is a long term problem for The Royals.
Betting Prediction: 3-1
Dream Team Star Man: Esteban Granero
Liverpool v Newcastle – Sunday 4th November 2012 – 16.00 KO
Bless Sky, every year they put this game on the box just in case we get another 4-3 classic like in 1996, but it just isn’t going to happen. Back then Oasis and Blur were fighting out for chart supremacy, TFI Friday was a must watch on the box, and football was getting ready to come home. Liverpool are a shadow of the team they had then, how they’d love to have the firepower of Rush, Fowler and Collymore now. Newcastle are also a little less ambitious then they were back in the day and I can’t see Pardew getting quite as emotional as KK did.
Team News: Glen Johnson should return from a muscle problem, whilst the away side fear the game may have come round too early for Top Scorer Demba Ba. Tiote is still suspended.
Betting Prediction: 1-1
Dream Team Star Man: Steve Gerrard
West Bromwich Albion v Southampton – Monday 5th November – 20.00 KO
Will we see fireworks in this game? Probably not. Will we see Saints boss Nigel Adkins thrown onto a Bonfire like a Guy if they lose? Possibly! West Brom will sit deep and counter attack, Southampton will look to see if Rickie Lambert can continue his sparkling form. I predict this will be more of a slow burn, as opposed to a Chinese Cracker.
Team News: Shane Long is a big injury doubt for The Baggies, but better news for Southampton as they have no new worries.
Betting Prediction: 2-1
Dream team Star Man: Peter Odemwingie
