EPL Predictions & Team News 7/9 Dec 2013

The goals just keep on flowing with some truly great games and goals during midweek. Anyone hoping for goal of the month in December will need something truly special to even be considered with the quality of goals we have already seen. We have a full schedule of games including a Monday fixture for your delight.

Manchester United v Newcastle – Saturday 7 December 2013 – 1245KO

Both teams are coming off a loss which ended a decent run of games and the top four seems to be getting further away from Old Trafford with every game played. As in midweek, this is not a fixture that Moyes would have thought he would be approaching from behind the opposition and even though it is at home, no-one would be surprised if Newcastle caused problems.
Four wins in a row came to an end in Wales with a drumming on Wednesday but remarkably Newcastle are still sitting in seventh with a negative goal difference! The only thing more shocking is that Newcastle aren’t the highest placed team with Tottenham above them also on -2. The fear factor has gone away from travelling to Manchester United so Newcastle will fancy their chances but they will need to be much improved from midweek.

Premier League Injuries: The big news is that Rooney is suspended after picking up five yellow cards and with Van Persie still a doubt, it may be a fresh front line. Kagawa had breathing issues after the Everton loss and may also be unavailable. Cisse and Ben Arfa could both return for Newcastle.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Danny Welbeck

Crystal Palace v Cardiff – Saturday 7 December 2013 – 1500KO

The recovery has already started under Tony Pulis with a win over West Ham and another winnable game at home to Cardiff should come at the right time for Palace. We all know that you have to win your home games against the teams in the relegation battle so this is a six pointer.
With only two points from their last four games, which includes the draw against Manchester United, Cardiff have certainly lost momentum and need to try and take at least a point from Palace. It’s going to be a tight game and probably one for the purists.

Premier League Injuries: No new injuries for Palace, Cardiff may have Bellamy available after a hamstring problem.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-0
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Marouane Chamakh

Liverpool v West Ham – Saturday 7 December 2013 – 1500KO

Well Christmas certainly did come early for Suarez on Wednesday after scoring four excellent goals and getting an assist against Norwich. Another home game against a struggling West Ham side should see plenty more chances and with Suarez in this form, Sturridge certainly won’t be missed. These are dangerous times for anyone that hasn’t been able to fit Suarez into their fantasy football team!
West Ham have scored just five goals in their last seven matches and that includes three against a really poor Fulham side. With Carroll still not fit, there is no obvious solution to the problem and even though Big Sam is under threat, how will a new manager create goals out of nothing?

Premier League Injuries: Morrison is suspended after picking up five yellow cards and although Carroll has returned to training, he is still not fit to play. Nothing new for Liverpool.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 3-0
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Luis Suarez

Southampton v Manchester City – Saturday 7 December 2013 – 1500KO

A horrid set of fixtures continues for Southampton as after playing both Arsenal and Chelsea in their last three games, they now have Manchester City. The home game on Wednesday against Aston Villa should have been a chance to regroup with three points but after dominating the game, Southampton will be disappointed that Villa’s only three shots on target all found the net.
The top three have all won their last three games and it’s becoming increasingly important to not drop points against the lesser sides. After negotiating a tricky trip to West Brom on Wednesday, Southampton will also be a tough test providing that they can regain their defensive form which gave them a great start to the season. City conceded two late goals in midweek so they definitely haven’t put their suspect away form to bed.

Premier League Injuries: More problems for Southampton as Wanyama and Clyne both picked up injuries midweek. Nothing new for City.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-3
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Sergio Aguero

Stoke v Chelsea – Saturday 7 December 2013 – 1500KO

Normally an away fixture at Stoke would be cause for concern for any club but with only one win in their last ten games and few clean sheets, something has changed and not for the better. The good news is that Chelsea are shipping a few goals at the moment so if Stoke can keep it tight at the back, a late winner is possible.

Premier League Injuries: Erik Pieters is unlikely to be fit for Stoke and Huth is still out. Oscar has recovered from an ankle problem but probably won’t start and Eto’o is available.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-2
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Frank Lampard

West Brom v Norwich – Saturday 7 December 2013 – 1500KO

Both sides lost in mid-week but while West Brom ended the game with a couple of confidence boosting goals, Norwich were absolutely trashed by Suarez. As defending is considered as Hughton’s strength and it is currently in tatters, these are edgy days and more fans are calling for his head. It’s going to take a mammoth performance to get anything from West Brom but his players owe him as they did after Manchester City away.

Premier League Injuries: Jonas Olsson is suspended for West Brom after getting his fifth booking and Mulumbu returns from his suspension. Van Wolfswinkel is back in training for Norwich but won’t feature.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Gary Hooper

Sunderland v Tottenham – Saturday 7 December 2013 – 1730KO

Sunderland gave a good go of it against Chelsea and were mainly undone by the brilliance of Hazard and a rather silly own goal! It certainly gave some positives and Sunderland will be happy in the knowledge that Tottenham don’t currently have anyone playing near the levels Hazard reached in midweek.
Two goals from outside the box hasn’t appeased many Tottenham fans who are disliking the current brand of football being played. Their first win in five games is certainly something to build on however but anything other than a win will see some immense pressure put on AVB.

Premier League Injuries: No change for Sunderland but Vertonghen misses out for Tottenham and Dembele will face a late fitness test.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-2
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Aaron Lennon

Fulham v Aston Villa – Sunday 8 December 2013 – 1330KO

Six straight losses now for Fulham who will be devastated after losing to Tottenham on Wednesday with their best display in some time. There are certainly positives to take and even though Villa haven’t lost in five, there is a definite chance of a result.
Villa are keeping it pretty tight at the back but with the occasional slip up on the road. Currently riding high in tenth they will be looking to continue their good form.

Premier League Injuries: Fulham will be missing Bent who is ineligible against his parent club but hope to have Hangeland back in the mix. Both Vlaar and Luna could miss out with injuries suffered midweek.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Dimitar Berbatov

Arsenal v Everton – Sunday 8 December 2013 – 1600KO

Another solid performance from Arsenal midweek saw another clean sheet which makes it five in their last six games and the best defensive record in the premier league. At times against Hull they were absolutely unplayable and with the same passing and tempo, Everton’s defence shouldn’t prove too many problems. Keeping their full backs worrying about defending rather than their usual attacking could be the key.
Coming after a brilliant win against Manchester United in midweek, confidence is high for Everton, they have only lost one game all season and are on a 7 game unbeaten run. Their current expansive style may play into Arsenal’s hands who are fantastic on the break and could start with Walcott out wide. This should be an open game and an absolute cracker!

Premier League Injuries: Sagna should be available for Arsenal after missing out Wednesday through injury and expect Giroud , Gibbs and Arteta to return. No news for Everton who will most likely field the same side that beat Manchester United.
Premier League Betting Prediction: 2-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Olivier Giroud

Swansea v Hull – Monday 9 December 2013 – 2000KO

A loss to Arsenal took the shine off the Liverpool win for Hull but they should at least get a bit more of the ball against Swansea. After dispatching Newcastle on Wednesday, Swansea will be looking to string together back to back wins and start to ascend the table. With only one point currently separating the teams, a win should see either team into the top half.

Premier League Injuries: Swansea will wait until after the weekend to decide whether Michu, Bony or Vazquez are fit enough to start. No news for Hull at the moment
Premier League Betting Prediction: 1-1
Sky Sports Fantasy Star Man: Tom Huddlestone

More goals please! Only one really interesting game but with how the season has gone so far, expect some upsets!
