The new football season is officially back and naturally with it comes a whole host of new boots. Today Nike have announced their offering in the Tech Craft range featuring the welcomed returned of leather and they look just lovely.
Nike has been on a bit of role of late with their football gear – revolutionary innovations like Flyknit and Dynamic Fit collars have helped mould the boots landscape. But Nike wanted to kick it old school and introduce some leather around the place and retain the soft touch associated with it. And here is the fruits of their labour in the premium collection of hybrid leather boots: Nike Tech Craft.
Nike Tech Craft strategically places a thin layer of leather in high ball-contact areas (the medial and lateral sides of the forefoot) on each of Nike’s four football boot styles — Hypervenom, Magista, Mercurial and Tiempo. Each boot has the Flyknit tech as well and remains true to its original aesthetic and performance; The Hypervenom still offer the same agility, the Magista are still for the playmakers, the Tiempo still give you unrivalled control and the Mercurial are always built for speed.
“Tech Craft encompasses our ‘no-compromise’ philosophy. Players don’t have to choose between materials like Flyknit and leather; they can have the benefits of both in one premium pair of boots.” – Nathan VanHook, Nike Football Senior Design Director.
The application of leather isn’t purely for just aesthetics – the upper now delivers a responsive touch on the ball with great care taken to ensure the softness of the leather was not compromised as it was fused onto the upper. The boots also possess a balance of oils to offset the steam and prevent the leather from stiffening. Nike All Conditions Control was integrated into the process to provide enhanced ball control in both dry and wet conditions.
The Nike Tech Craft football boots are available from the today on the Nike Football App and will go on general sale on the 13th August on Nike.com, with Edinson Cavani, Alexis Sanchez and Blaise Matuidi wearing the Nike Tech Craft boots on the hallowed turf.
