Premiership Predictions 24 – 25 Oct 2009

Well after our first premiership preview and predictions last week which produced 5 correct results and 5 not-so correct results, we have decided to make it a weekly thing. So read on for the definitive low-down on this weekends games.

This weekend kicks off with a fiery midlands derby between Wolves and Villa. Expect a fierce derby with plenty of challenges flying in and plenty of open play which could produce a few goals. Villa managed to produce an impressive win against Chelsea last time out so will be looking to build on that, but local derby’s usually go against the form books and wolves at home should be able to compete. For me this is going to be a draw.

Sunderland travel to Birmingham in great form after narrowly missing out on victory at Old Trafford and then beating Liverpool with a perfectly legitimate……. (F you! Joe) goal. Lee Cattermole has been ruled out for 12 weeks which is a huge blow for Steve Bruce, but the rest of the team have been flying and with leagues joint top goal scorer in Darren Bent they should be looking to get a win here scoring a couple along the way.

Burnley will be looking to continue there amazing home form against an unpredictable Wigan. All of Burnley’s points this season have come at home and I they should take another point again this weekend.

Hull against Portsmouth will either be a good game with 2 teams battling for the points or a game that will highlight why they are both down the bottom of the table. This could go either way if I’m honest but I think the draw is a fair shout.

Tottenham will be without Jermaine Defoe who stupidly got sent off last time out but with Crouchy and Keane upfront, scoring goals shouldn’t be a problem. Stoke are no push over and will provide some resistance but a much improved Spurs under Harry will be looking to get another 3 points this weekend.

Chelsea and Blackburn entertain us with the late kick off which should be quite entertaining. Super Frank super goals got back on the score sheet mid week (his 1st goal since August 18th!) and Chelsea seemed to put there shocking defending against Villa behind them with an emphatic 4-0 win. Blackburn got a good result last time out but I feel Chelsea will prove to be too powerful for them and win by a few goals.

Super Sunday should live up to its billing with a massive game at Anfield. Liverpool are on their worst run in 22 years losing 4 on the bounce in all competitions and with them sweating on the fitness of Torres, Gerrard and Johnson, facing Manchester Utd this weekend couldn’t have come at a worse time for them. If Liverpool are without those 3 it could be a tough weekend for them. However, Manchester Utd did lose both games against the (the mighty) pool last season and there are still doubts over Rooney’s fitness, so this one isn’t a straight forward game for Utd. A certain Michael Owen returns to Anfield after joining there arch rivals and should receive a warm welcome! Anyone fancy Owen scoring in the last ten minutes to snatch a win?

Bolton host Everton which for me could be a home win for the trotters. Everton got smashed 5-0 against Benfica mid-week after fielding a weakened side. Kevin Davies will cause problems all game and will make life uncomfortable for the Everton defence.

Man City play host Fulham and will be looking to pick up 3 points to prove that they really are competing for a champion’s league place. With Liverpool struggling these are the games that City need to be winning to increase the gap between them and pool. A home win here looks the likely result.

Arsenal travel across London to West Ham in good form and should pick up 3 points against a struggling West Ham side. Fabregas is pulling all the strings in midfield providing plenty of goals for the team so if he’s on fire again Arsenal should pick up 3 points.

Wolves vs Aston Villa – Draw (villa win for me, Joe)
