UFC London Preview

The UFC is back in the UK this weekend with London and the O2 being the venue. A plethora of European talent will be on show and you can even catch two hours of main card action including the main event for free on Channel 5. We have bought ourselves a couple of tickets to catch this one live!
Alexander Gustafsson vs Jimi Manuwa
The main event is an interesting one, with much more to gain for Manuwa than Gustafsson. A win for Manuwa propels him right up the rankings and a loss doesn’t really hurt him too much providing he doesn’t get absolutely dominated. A win for Gustafsson leaves him exactly where he is now, the number one contender spot but a loss would completely derail his momentum and leave him needing a few more wins to get back to his pre fight position. Gustafsson is the favourite but no-one is contesting that Manuwa has obscene power and one punch could win him the fight at any moment. The range of Gustafsson is perfectly suited to stay away from Manuwa’s power which should see him take Manuawa apart for victory.
Prediction: Gustafsson via TKO
Michael Johnson vs Melvin Guillard
The proposed rematch of Pearson vs Guillard from Manchester was derailed with a Pearson knee injury and Johnson stepped in to keep this being a great fight and potential fight of the night. Guillard is a super athlete and always puts on a show but you can say the exact same things about Johnson. The momentum is on Johnson’s side with a couple of wins against top opposition and every Blackzilians fighter is looking great at the moment. Expect an absolute stormer of a fight and don’t switch off because the fight could end at any second.
Prediction: Johnson via TKO
Brad Pickett vs Neil Seery
This fight marks the move to the flyweight division for Pickett and many are excited to see him make a run at the title. Pickett has been around a long time and has just seemed to come up short against the very best in the Bantamweight division. A drop down in weight could reinvigorate him and having a win against the current champ doesn’t hurt at all. Seery is making his UFC debut after relinquishing his Cage Warriors belt to change promotion on short notice and although a win would be huge for him, it’s debatable whether he is even UFC calibre and certainly whether he is in Pickett’s league.
Prediction: Pickett via Submission
Gunnar Nelson vs Omari Akhmedov
Two undefeated fighters in the final main card bout but with neither being a particularly big name, we would have liked to see one of the other British fighters kick off the Channel 5 show. Only three UFC fights between these two also backs up that point and a submission artist in Nelson against a striker who loves a takedown could see this fight becoming a bit stale but let’s hope otherwise!
Prediction: Akhmedov via Decision
