Where to Watch the Super Bowl in London 2018
Super Bowl LII takes places this weekend as the Philadelphia Eagles take on the New England Patriots in Minnesota. The Super Bowl is always an event with us here at Average Joes, and we know we’re not the only ones who struggle to stay awake as they tuck into their tenth buffalo wing while pretending they know what the ‘nickel formation’ is!
The game may kick off a little earlier these days but staying up until 4am can still be a slog unless you’ve done some tactical kipping. So we always like to get out of the house and go hit one of London’s many venues that will be hosting parties for the event – the atmosphere alone should be enough to see you through until sunrise. With that in mind, here’s the best places in London to watch the Super Bowl…
Balthazar, Covent Garden
Location: 4-6 Russell St, WC2B 5HZ.
If you want to watch the Super Bowl in style, head to Covent Garden where the whole of Balthazar restaurant will be transformed into the ultimate, luxury Super Bowl space with the emphasis on luxury. Five giant screens have been installed complete with top-of-the-line surround sound.
Tickets includes a complimentary Maker’s Mark cocktail, unlimited tea and coffee to keep you awake, free popcorn all night and a selection of dishes all in keeping with the American theme; we’re talking wings, nachos, sliders and, of course, hot dogs. You’ll even get given a breakfast pastry as you leave!
Location: 170 Victoria Street, SW1E 5LB.
But if you don’t feel like paying, one of the best places to watch the game for free in the city will be Greenwood in Victoria. One of London’s newest and best premier Sports Lounge comes with sixteen large viewing screens, so you’ll have a great view wherever you are. There’s also American 8 Ball pool and excellent grub to help you through the evening when the going gets tough.
Greenwood will be serving food through until 3am, with burgers, stone baked pizzas and sharing platters the way to go. Be warned, however, while unreserved seating is free, it is first come, first serve, and you can always pay £15 for seating, as well as a complimentary beer and a burger.
Joe’s Southern Table & Bar, Covent Garden
Location: 34 King Street, WC2E 8JD.
Cost: From £20
For something on the cheaper side around Covent Garden, Joe’s Southern Table & Bar in Covent Garden provides a nice alternative to Balthazar’s. The big game will be shown live across several super large screens and atmosphere is usually right up there.
If you’ve got friends tagging along just for the ride, they’ll enjoy the food at Joes if nothing else! Guests can buy VIP tickets which includes an American beer and platter of southern style treats which includes Joe’s delicious gluten free fried chicken. Joe’s nearby sister venue, Tropicana Beach Club, will also be showing the game with tickets starting from £10!
Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, Euston
Location: Tavistock Hotel, Bedford Way, WC1H 9EU.
Another freebie which is perfect if you’re having to bring along some friends along who aren’t really into the night’s festivities, the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes will be hosting their annual Gridiron Party. The night will feature the usual array of food and beverages, as well as the opportunity to win amazing prizes, grab merchandise and place bets on-site.
Naturally, there’ll be some great American food on offer, but if you’re with Joes and Janes who aren’t bothered about the result, Bloomsbury Lanes has pool tables, beer pong tables, karaoke and of course, bowling. All you’ll need to do is get your name on the list before you go.
The Bat & Ball, Stratford
Location: 80 Haymarket, St. James’s, SW1Y 4TE.
Cost: From £5
The Bat and Ball at Westfield in Stratford have partnered up Lagunitas for their Super Bowl Party, and they’ll be offering the chance to win a VIP private viewing session of the game with your very own lazy boy couch, complete with fridge stacked full of beers. Not only that, winners will also have their very own bar with a full keg attached.
But if you just want to watch the game among pals, Bat & Ball has twelve extra-large plasmas and a gigantic screen which means your viewing experience will never be interrupted. Their full menu of pizzas, ribs and burgers will be available all night, alongside a genuinely great selection of craft beers.
Roadhouse, Covent Garden
Location: The Market At Covent Garden, 35 The Piazza, WC2E 8BE.
For something a little wilder, Roadhouse is always one of the rowdier American bars in the capital, and they’ll once again be whipping up a gridiron frenzy behind the bar with plenty of entertainment pre and during the game. There’s four super screens as well as nine extra-large plasmas, so there’s basically no chance of not getting a decent view of the game.
There’ll be a special Roadhouse Super Bowl Menu available all night, which includes the famous Roadhouse Burger, as well as a wide selection of American craft lagers brought in especially for the day. The NFL London Cheerleaders will also be on duty if you get bored of the game!
