It’s WrestleMania 33 this weekend, and while we unashamedly love our pro wrestling – so keep abreast of everything on a weekly basis – we understand many Joes up and down the country either a) don’t have the time or b) aren’t as sad as we are. With that said, WrestleMania is the Super Bowl of wrestling which means casual fans tune in just this once a year. So without further ado, here’s a run-down of all the matches on the card at this year’s Showcase of the Immortals and everything you need to know about them!

WrestleMania 33 Preview 2017

Goldberg (c) v Brock Lesnar – Universal Championship

Anticipation Factor: ★★★★

With Goldberg beating Kevin Owens at the last PPV before Mania, as expected the WWE’s main event this Sunday will be Goldberg v Brock Lesnar for the Raw version of the WWE title. It’s no great shock that the company is putting these two juggernauts against each other for their showcase event – mainly because they’re two of the company’s genuine A-listers. And while the build-up has been pretty solid thanks to Goldberg’s 30 seconds victory against the former UFC star Lesnar last year at Summerslam, the main event does pit two opponents with a combined age of 89. Don’t expect a lengthy match but it is one of the few matches on the card that, as it stands, we’d call it right down the middle.

Prediction: Brock Lesnar

Bray Wyatt (c) v Randy Orton – WWE Championship

Anticipation Factor: ★★★★

SmackDown’s main event at this year’s Mania will pit ‘outta nowhere’ Randy Orton against beardy cult leader Bray Wyatt. Orton earned his main event spot by winning this year’s Royal Rumble while Bray Wyatt won the title off John Cena recently at Elimination Chamber. This match has been brewing since the end of last summer after Orton supposedly joined Wyatt’s dark ‘family’. Naturally, it was just a ploy to screw Wyatt over by burning down his garden shed where his Sister Abigail rests. Classic. Both wrestlers deserve the spot in the SmackDown’s showcase but we’re a little sad AJ Styles didn’t get the nod despite carrying the brand since the roster split.

Prediction: Bray Wyatt

Bayley (c) v Charlotte Flair v Sasha Banks v Nia Jax – Raw Women’s Championship

Anticipation Factor: ★★★

Three of the best female wrestlers in the business will fight it out for the Raw Women’s Championship at Mania with Bayley going in as Champ. The dynamics going into the match have been interesting to say the least with the title changing hands over the last few months more than we’ve had hot dinners. It has diluted the appeal of it a little, especially given that everyone’s favourite hugger Bayley winning the title at Mania would have made for a special WrestleMania moment. Having said that, none of these ever have bad bouts, so expect to be blown away.

Prediction: Charlotte Flair

The Undertaker v Roman Reigns

Anticipation Factor: ★★★★★

For our money, this is the most interesting match of the night. If you’re not aware of the history of both of these wrestlers, The Undertaker’s record at Wrestlemania is 23-1, so basically The Dead Man never loses. While Roman Reigns is Vince McMahon’s Golden Boy – despite essentially every hardcore wrestling fan hating him for being shoved down their throats – so essentially the Big Dawg never loses. Everyone wants Reigns to get demolished but knows he probably won’t. It’s set up to be a stonker.

Prediction: Roman Reigns

WrestleMania 33 Preview Undertaker

Triple H v Seth Rollins

Anticipation Factor: ★★★★★

If he’s fit to wrestle, Seth Rollins taking on his one-time mentor Triple H could be a classic. The storyline’s origins date back to almost 3 years ago when Seth Rollins turned on his brothers in The Shield to join Triple H and his Authority gang. Fast forward 2 years later and Trips costs Rollins the title against Kevin Owens for some reason we’re not sure has even been explained. Regardless, the pair are both pros and this could be a cracker. Only issue – Rollins has genuinely injured himself and it’s touch and go to whether he’s fit to wrestle.

Prediction: Seth Rollins

WrestleMania 33 Preview HHH Seth Rollins

Chris Jericho v Kevin Owens – United States Championship

Anticipation Factor: ★★★★★

The best build-up to any match on the 33 card, however, goes to Chris Jericho v Kevin Owens. The pair have been the story of Raw since the brand split before they’re inevitable fall out last month at the ‘Festival of Friendship’. The former ‘best friends’ share a chemistry that’s rarely found in wrestling and the match should be one of the best of the night. We just hope the WWE gives it the love and time it deserves.

Prediction: Kevin Owens

AJ Styles v Shane McMahon

Anticipation Factor: ★★

Having talked about AJ Styles carrying the SmackDown brand for the year, the company left The Phenomenal One without a match 4 weeks before the biggest PPV of the year. Belatedly they decided on giving him the programme’s GM and real-life boss’s son Shane McMahon. Shane is a perfectly entertaining wrestler and is mad enough to give any match a moment or two, but AJ is probably the best in-ring performer the company have and it just seems like a waste of talent.

Prediction: AJ Styles

John Cena & Nikki Bella v The Miz & Maryse

Anticipation Factor: ★★

Though Cena won the WWE Title at Royal Rumble, he’s quickly been relegated to a mixed tag match with his girlfriend, Nikki Bella, against one of his oldest rivals, The Miz and his wife, Maryse. We love Cena and The Miz, and a singles match could have been great. But mixed tag matches rarely amount to anything other than a token gesture. The main interest here is we might possibly see a proposal…

Prediction: John Cena & Nikki Bella
