Amazon Dash Button

We should probably say from the off that this one is currently just for you American Joes. At the same time, it’s too interesting to not share with our fellow UK Joes anyway. Introducing the Amazon Dash Button – a series of physical buttons that link directly to your Amazon account, that when pressed, will instantly order a variety of products to your delivery address.
Well-known States brands like Gillette, Gatorade, Dash and Glad have all signed up to have a button, with more expected if the launch goes successfully. The Dash Buttons are free and come with a reusable adhesive and a hook so you can hang, stick, or place it right where you need it.
Whether it’s washing powder, toilet roll or shaving foam, one click of the button and Amazon will send the product as soon as possible. The technology is simple – use your smartphone to connect to your home Wi-Fi and select the product you want to reorder with Dash Button. Once connected, a single press automatically places your order.
Amazon sends an order alert to your phone, so it’s easy to cancel if you change your mind… Or more likely, if your drunk mates decide you need a life-time supply of nappies. There’s also an added safety measure for similar situations – the Dash Button only responds to your first press.
Annoyingly no beer button is available yet, as it’s Amazon invite only. It’s an interesting idea and while it might sound far too novelty to catch on at first glance, the more you think about it, the more convenient this could actually be. If it proves to be just that, it’s almost certain we’ll get it in the UK too. Check out the full list of products signed up here.
