C.H.I.P. is a computer. It’s tiny. It’s easy to use. And it’s incredibly only $9!
C.H.I.P. does all the computer things you’d expect. You can work in LibreOffice to edit spreadsheets, create word documents, or craft presentations while saving all your documents to C.H.I.P.’s onboard storage.
Most importantly, you can surf the web and check your emails and videos of cats. It does it through the computer’s built-in WiFi. You can also obviously attach a keyboard and mouse – all wirelessly.
For $9, you would have thought that would be just about it. But the C.H.I.P. does so much more. It also comes pre-loaded with Scratch – an easy to learn language that teaches the basics of programing by making stories, games, and animations.
It’s also for gamers. Once you’ve connected your controllers via built-in Bluetooth, you can play thousands of games both retro and new.
On paper, C.H.I.P. is a computer for everyone. Students, teachers, kids, artists, hackers, and inventors will all find something of value here. We’re struggling to find the catch. Possibly the only catch is that you’ll need to have probably a basic understanding of computing to get the C.H.I.P. up and running. So maybe not for your grandparents.
There’s even a Pocket C.H.I.P. which makes the C.H.I.P. portable! The Pocket C.H.I.P. is a 4.3” touchscreen which has a QWERTY keyboard and 5-hour battery – in a case small enough to fit in your back pocket.
It’s being sold through Kickstarter with an initial target of $50,000. With 25 days to go, it’s almost made a staggering $1million! So it’s fair to say people love this idea. Orders are being taken through the C.H.I.P. Kickstarter Website now and will be delivered at the start of 2016.
