Chicago Department Hi-Fi Stereo Console
If you’re an older Joe, you may remember the old-style stereo consoles which catered for all your audio needs with the speakers, radio and turntable all put under one roof. But as CD sales went through the roof, anything associated with vinyl unfortunately fell through the floor. But the all-in-one stereo consoles have started to make a comeback, and one of the best we’ve seen is by design house Department Chicago.
Department Chicago are billing their Modern Hi-Fi Stereo Console as ‘the first affordable modern day stereo console with good looks and great sound.’ Built to be the focal point of any living space, the inspiration for the Console originates from the simplicity of furniture design in the 50s and 60s.
The Hi-Fi Console is extremely functional and to connects to your audio output wirelessly via Bluetooth or through one of the audio-in connections. The Console stores 120+ records and comes with removable record dividers as well as an adjustable shelf.
The audio quality for the Stereo Console is naturally top of the line with Chicago Department working closely with audio specialists to ensure you get your money’s worth. As such, it comes with 100 watt Class D Stereo Amplifiers, 6” Aluminum/Magnesium drivers and a 1” titanium dome tweeter.
For stability and damping the Hi-Fi Console is made from select hardwood solids with thin layers of MDF, offering excellent sound reproduction. Joes have the option of genuine Walnut or Maple veneers to finish things off.
The Hi-Fi Stereo Console by Chicago Department is being sold on Kickstarter where it’s already hit its target of $20,000 with well over a week to go. We absolutely love the design of the Hi-Fi Console but you should be warned this beauty doesn’t come cheap with a Console in Walnut setting you back around £1,200 ($1,695) with shipping expected in October this year.
