With vinyl sales through the roof, LP players are becoming ever more exotic. We’ve featured plenty of turntables over the years, from the minimalist Wheel to HYM’s all-in-one Seed, each with their own USP. However, the sound quality can something take a back seat to the aesthetics. But one turntable looking to deliver design and performance is HYM’s newest offering, the DUO.
The contemporary DUO Turntable is designed by HYM Seed Audio and turns their original all-in-one LP player concept on its head. Built for portable use, unlike the original Seed, the DUO comes with a detachable Jawbone Jambox Bluetooth-enabled speaker with 10 hours of playback, which means you can take your vinyl in the garden and down the park to annoy the locals.
The DUO system upgrades things with larger two 1″ tweeter and two 4″ woofers for improved audio, and it also comes equipped with an Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge – which if you’re not familiar with your record needle cartridges, is more than useful.
The DUO is much smaller than the Seed, despite fitting in a detachable Bluetooth speaker, and comes with the addition of built-in Amazon Alexa functionality for hands-off speaker playing – even if the LP player itself does still require manual spinning!
The system is powered by a Qualcomm CSR8670 chip, which comes with 2 full-range drivers and 2 low-frequency passive radiators, so the audio should be more than handy. If you want a fuller sound experience, the DUO can be put into stereo mode too when two DUO speakers are connected to the turntable.
Available in three bright colourways – Orange, Neon Yellow and Jet Black – the DUO Turntable is available now over on Kickstarter for around £175 plus a £18 delivery charge for those of us in the UK. Deliveries are expected in December 2018.
