Google introduced it’s new latitude service last week. And although it is an ‘opt in’ service it caused a few a raised eyebrows. Basiclly designed to track someone via their mobile phone, either by gsm triangulation or more advanced gps.
Basically you and your friends all agree you will track each other. You can then open up google maps on your smartphone and see who is near you using icons. You can choose to call, text or im them, there is even an options for directions to that person!!

If you are thinking about opting in to Google Latitude, then check out the video for a brief introduction. Then go to http://google.com/latitude to sign up.

Sounds like big brother meets enemy of the state to me, though we are told this information won’t be freely available…
