Back at CES 2018, LG unveiled a 65-inch OLED TV that could be rolled up just like a poster. It was only a prototype but it certainly attracted plenty of attention. Well, at CES 2019, the South Korean electronics powerhouse have just debuted it proper. Introducing the LG R9 TV, otherwise known as the world’s first rollable 4K OLED TV.

LG Release World’s First Rollable OLED TV

The OLED65R9PUA, to give it its full name, got its grand unveiling at CES in Last Vegas yesterday. But what makes it different from last year’s announcement? Firstly, it’s ready to go into production and LG say it’ll be on the shelves towards the end of the year.

We’ve also got a base this time, with the rollable screen retracting in, leaving ample of space in common areas and living rooms when not in use. The device will also have a ‘Line Mode’ option which will display only one-fourth of its panel where you can control like likes of music and home gadget apps.

On the sleek metallic box, there also a mammoth 100-watt Dolby Atmos speaker hidden behind Kvadrat fabric, which packs a real punch. It also supports Dolby Vision with automatic picture adjustment, has Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built-in, and will also support Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit when it arrives.

LG plan to launch the rollable OLED65R9PUA TV by the end of 2019. There’s not been any price detail as of yet but it’s safe to assume you’re looking at beyond the £3,500 mark. Keep an eye on the LG Website.
