With 3D printing capabilities become more and more advanced, it was only a matter of time before personal 3D printing became achievable and affordable. Well, it’s just become more achievable and affordable that you’d probably ever thought thanks to OLO, the world’s first ever 3D printer for your smartphone!

The OLO Smartphone 3D Printer is a portable and multimaterial device which uses just your smartphone, some resin and a small Black box to realise your 3D creations. It’s lightweight, compact, easy to use and surprisingly cheap.

OLO’s technology is simple – yet brilliant – mainly because half of the hardware needed is already in your pocket. To 3D print, all you need to do is select an object through the OLO app, place the box over your screen and pour in some resin. That’s it – OLO’s building chamber will do the rest.

OLO works with smartphones of basically any size or brand. Even large 5.5 inch displays like the iPhone 6S+ or Galaxy A7 are catered for. You can also use any 3D scan software to create, so you’re not limited to stock none-descript wired balls or skulls that come with the app. Joes can get truly creative.

OLO is also cordless, only needing 4 x standard AA batteries to work. The only drawback we can find is that it isn’t the quickest thing. It can reach a resolution of up to 32 microns, which means an iPhone 6 can build 1cm in around 46 minutes. Best leave it on overnight, then!

The OLO Smartphone 3D Printer is being sold now at crowdfunding website Kickstarter where it’s already smashed its target with over two weeks to go. You can get hold of one for around £70 ($99) with deliveries expected in September – not too bad at all! Head over to the OLO Kickstarter Website for more details.
