Almost 25 years after the original was introduced to the world, Sony have just announced that the iconic PlayStation is getting a re-release. Named the PlayStation Classic, the new mini-console will land in December and will feature 20 pre-loaded games, including Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms and 17 other legendary titles.

Sony Announce PlayStation Classic With 20 Pre-Loaded Iconic Games

The original PlayStation was the first home console in video game history to ship 100 million units worldwide. Essentially, we all had one. So while the likes of the recently released Atari VCS do offer some nostalgia factor, the PlayStation Classic should do the same but ten-fold.

The new miniaturised version will come pre-loaded with 20 classic titles, including fan-favourites such as Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms. All of the games will be playable in their original format too, so you can really take a trip down memory lane.

Sony say that the mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, but it emulates the original’s look and feel with the same logo, button layout and packaging. The console comes complete with two wired controllers, an HDMI cable to connect to your TV, plus a virtual memory card to save your adventures as you switch between titles.

The PlayStation Classic will be available for £89.99 and will be released on 3rd December this year – the date of the release of the original PlayStation in Japan in 1994.
