Now although MWC doesn’t officially start until tomorrow, and we are heading out then! We are already seeing various leaks and early launches like most years. First up, and possibly one of the most exciting, if slightly gimmicky is the new Samsung Galaxy Beam HD Projector Phone. Yes that’s right, phone!
Featuring a 15 lumens projector, you can expect to put out a picture of 50-inches to any close by surface. Although it is quoted as being HD, it’s always tricky when it comes to a projector and will really depend on what you are projecting on too. The phone itself does take a 5 megapixel snap and records in 720p HD at 30fps.
Running on not quite the latest Android, 2.3 Gingerbread, an internal 8GB storage, with an extra 32GB microSD and power will be provided by a 1GHz dual-core processor. All in all the specs beyond the name are actually pretty lack-lustre.
Is this really usable? Do you want to have to ‘lose’ your phone whilst you project to a big screen? It seems much in the same vein as as Apple Air Play which mirrors the screen on your iPhone on to your television. We could see it becoming popular for those business types on the go and rather than carrying a full on projector to meetings, but we are sure you will come into some compatibility issues with programs, presentations and the like.
Gimmick or Genius? We think Gimmick…
