Samsung Gear S2

The Samsung Gear S was, by most accounts, a fairly decent smartwatch. Unfortunately it wasn’t as exciting or as attractive as the Apple Watch which was released in April. This meant Samsung has had to up their game and we think they have done just that with the announcement of the Samsung Gear S2!
The main difference with the new incarnation is it has a much more aesthetically pleasing circular face and also has increased its battery life so it now possesses more than the Apple Watch. Most interestingly, Samsung are releasing two different versions. While nothing to shout about in itself, they look incredibly different!
The Gear S2 Classic in Black was “made for users who prefer a more timeless watch design, offering an elegant Black finish with a matching genuine leather band.” The regular and more futuristic Gear S2 in White is “ideal for those who are on-the-go and have an admiration for minimal and modern design.”
Now here’s the specy stuff for you techy Joes… They both have 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED displays, 1.0GHz dual-core processors, run Tizen wearable platform software, IP68 dust and water resistance, 4GB storage, 512MB RAM, NFC, heart rate monitor and WiFi… you get all that?!
The battery life on the Gear S2 stands at a very impressive 2-3 days on a single charge. This is compared with Apple Watch’s 18 hours. It also naturally charged wirelessly. Watch bands for the Gear S2 can be easily swapped too with a simple click.
The 3G version of the Gear S2 incorporates the “first-ever e-SIM with voice capability,” so, just like the Apple Watch, you can perform all sorts of tasks with your phone without having to actually pick up the thing!
As this is a smartwatch, there are plenty of fun features with the Samsung Gear S2. It can send you notifications, allow voice input, and include apps for Nike+ Running as well as various other that haven’t been announced yet.
Samsung haven’t announced availability dates or prices yet for the Gear S2 but they’ll be on display at IFA in Berlin this weekend, so hopefully we’ll hear more soon. Regardless of price, we think they look fantastic if a little apple-y…
