Samsung SleepSense

Samsung have unveiled their latest gadget which they say will help Joes improve their quality of sleep. It’s called the SleepSense and it was revealed at IFA in Berlin last week!

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know that sleep is essential for general wellbeing, but if we’re honest, busy lifestyles and stress-filled jobs mean that a lot of us neglect our beds and rarely hit the seven to nine hours sleep a night that’s recommended.

We’re all used to being tired but most of us don’t acknowledge sleep is associated with a host of very real problems, from weak performance and increased errors at work. The Samsung SleepSense is here to change that.

In short, the SleepSense quickly and easily understands your sleep patterns, which means you can learn how to improve them without having to seek advice from boring old humans as it comes with an accompanying app. Think of the SleepSense as your very own bedtime guru!

The Samsung SleepSense is incredibly easy to use too: simply place the sensor under your mattress, download the SleepSense app to your smartphone, sync the two devices and go to sleep. SleepSense will do the rest.

It tracks your heart and respiratory rates as well as movement to calculate a sleep score based on seven elements; total sleep time, sleep efficiency, time it took to fall asleep, number of times you woke up, number of times you got out of bed, percentage of time in REM (rapid eye movement) and percentage of time in deep sleep.

Every morning the SleepSenese will use this data to give Joes a personalised sleep briefing – a summary of your sleep activity with your sleep score mapped against the average data for your age.

Unsurprisingly, there’s also a Smart Alarm feature which will wake you up gradually, by analysing the data collated from your sleep stages and identifying the best time for you to wake up.

The Samsung SleepSense can also be connected to the Samsung SmartThings app, which means, in theory, you can control any device that has wireless capabilities by your sleep pattern. Want the coffee on as soon as you wake up? Completely doable with the SleepSense.

There’s no price or release date announced for the SleepSense yet but it should be with us by the end of the year. Check out more details on the Samsung SleepSense Website.
