Multi-room speaker extraordinaire Sonos has just announced the next generation Play:5. The wireless speaker has been completely redesigned with a new style to suit the whole family, as well as some awesome new features!
Sonos’ attention to detail is what has made them one of our favourite speaker maker around and as such, the new Play:5 comes complete with Sonos’ new Trueplay speaker tuning technology, which aims to perfect the best sound possible for each individual room based on the conditions.
To do this, all you need to do is tune your speaker by using the microphone on your iPhone or iPad. The Sonos will then emit a test tone and the app will analyse the results before adjusting your speaker’s sound accordingly. Incredibly cool.
For you techys out there, there’s an extra driver thrown into the Play:5 with six instead of five, all of which have been redesigned especially for it. You’ll also get three mid-woofers and three tweeters, with Sonos promising clearer treble, deeper bass and a wider soundstage.
New to the Play:5 on the outside is some nifty touch sensitive buttons, where you tap to Play, Pause and Change Volume and a swipe to Change Track. There’s also a new plastic rather than metal grille, which contains 60,000 individually drilled holes. We did say there was attention to detail!
You can stand the speaker horizontally as a standalone speaker, pair it together with another Play:5 horizontally or stand them vertically. If you’re Sonos crazy, you can also use them as rear speakers in a 5.1 Playbar setup.
Available in simple Black or sophisticated White, the Sonos Play:5 will be arriving towards to the end of the year at the Sonos Website. The next gen Play:5 will set Joes back £429. For us, we reckon you get what you pay for and therefore think the Play:5 will be fully worth it.
