The world’s biggest tech expo, CES, is underway in Las Vegas. Bringing together the biggest names in the tech world, there’s always plenty of cool announcements this time of year and 2019 will be no different. The first tech giant to get in there is Sony, who have just announced a new Glass Sound Speaker, a minimalistic portable home speaker.
Officially called the LSPX-S2, the Sony Glass Sound Speaker is as much about the aesthetic as it is about the performance. Looking akin to a digital candle, it not only offers some crystal clear sound, it’s also aiming to enhance the atmosphere of your home with some lighting cues for some calming ambience.
But that doesn’t mean the audio isn’t top of the line. Sound fills every corner of the room, thanks to Sony’s unique Advanced Vertical Drive technology. The organic glass body itself, while notable for its look, also vibrates after being tapped by an actuator to spread the sound vertically in a 360-degree direction.
The organic glass tube tweeter has a wider surface compared to conventional speakers to create crystal clear sound with minimal loss of volume. Additionally, the speaker is Hi-Res Audio compatible and comes with 8 hours battery life, so you can use it anywhere in the home.
Naturally there’s Bluetooth connectivity, so you can quickly pair your smartphone to your speaker, and it also has NFC One-Touch compatibility for even faster and more convenient pairing. There’s also a ‘Push & Play’ function, which is a dedicated button to stream songs via Spotify Connect. Lastly, you can also use Wireless Multi-room to connect with up to 10 other compatible Sony audio devices over Wi-Fi.
The Sony LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker will be available in May 2019 with an SRP of £550. Check out more over at the Sony Website.
Earlier this week, Danish luxury audio giants Bang & Olufsen announced the all-new Beoplay E8 2.0 earphone which comes with a wireless charging case.
