Sony have just announced one of the most awesome pieces of tech you’re likely to see all year in the Xperia Touch. The projector doesn’t just show you images either; it responds to you and your touch and its projection can adapt to any flat surface in your home, opening up a whole world of possibilities.
At its most basic, the new Sony Xperia Touch is a portable projector that comes with all your usual capabilities including a high quality screen as large as 80-inches. But it’s also remarkably smart. The Xperia Touch combines infrared light array with 60fps camera capture to turn a flat surface in your home into a 23-inch touchscreen.
That means as well as being able to stream your favourite video content from various apps or connected your devices, you can also use the Xperia Touch as an everyday interactive message board. Keep notes for yourself, leave notes for your family, or even chat through video apps thanks to its two-way stereo speakers.
Thanks to its Wi-Fi connection, you can even use it to play interactive multi-player board games on your coffee table or scroll through your recipe app as you cook on your kitchen work surface. Essentially, whatever you can do on your smartphone, you can do it bigger and better with the Xperia.
It comes with some other nifty features too such as proximity sensing, which means the projector automatically turns on when it senses your approach. As well as being able to leave ‘handwritten’ messages, you can also set it up as a wall clock that appears when you’re in the room.
The Sony Xperia Touch projector doesn’t have a release date for the US yet, but us lucky folk in Europe will have the chance to get hold of one at some point in the spring. The only issue we can find is the price; one smart projector will set you back a whopping £1,400 (€1,599). As amazing as the technology appears, we’re not sure we could justify that sort of price.
