It’s hard to keep house plants healthy and happy. Over-watering and under-watering are two of the biggest problems faced by home gardeners. Partly because most of us have no idea what we’re doing, but mainly because most plants like to be watered in a steady rhythm. With the Tableau, you’ll never have to water your own plants again.
Comprised of three ceramic pots, a glass reservoir, and a steel base, the Tableau from award winning Dutch designers at Pikaplant is an automatic house plant watering tray that waters your plants so you don’t have to.
When designing the irrigation system, Tableau looked to an obvious source for inspiration – nature. In nature a plant gets its water in a wet-dry cycle. The wet allows roots to absorb water. The dry lets them air out and breathe. This is good for a plant’s roots, making it grow strong and healthy. Tableau mimics this natural cycle to automatically water your plants.
Waterin your plants with Tableau is incredibly easy. So easy, all you need to do is make sure there’s water in the reservoir and Tableau does the rest. But don’t worry, this isn’t a weekly chore – the reservoir contains enough to water three plants for around a month.
Water will flow down into the base of the Tableau which from a capillary fabric that acts as a wick. The bottoms of the pots have holes through which the soil makes contact with the fabric, so your house plants can drink as much as it needs. After they’ve finished the water, the base stays dry for a few days before fresh water flows down from the reservoir and the cycle continues.
We love the look of it. Its simple minimalist aesthetic will fit perfectly in any contemporary home. The best bit is as it uses zero electricity, you can put the Tableau literally wherever you like. It’s being sold on Kickstarter now in Black or White and will set you back around £80. It’s got 4 days left and is just short of its target, so get over there quickly!
