The Nipper Phone Charger
With smartphones’ ability to control basically anything and everything in our day to day life, running out of juice on the go can strike fear into even the most stoic of Joes. Thankfully there are options. One option that we like the look of is the Nipper, the world’s smallest phone charger!
The Nipper is small enough for you to carry it around wherever you go, it doesn’t depend on you remembering to charge it, and it relies on something readily available everywhere: household AA batteries.
Primarily designed for emergency use when all else fails, the Nipper is seriously small at just 17mm-cubed and it weighs just 10g. It’s designed to be small enough to fit perfectly on your keyring, or to fit handily into a pocket or bag so you’ll always have it with you.
To use it, all you need to do is open the Nipper, place two AA batteries between the magnets and connect it to your phone. Simple!
The Nipper currently works with any phone or other device with a micro-USB connector (Samsung, HTC, LG, Nokia, etc). The only problem is it’s not currently compatible with an iPhone but the makers say they’re developing a version which will.
As this is built for emergencies, the charge you’ll get from just a couple of AA batteries enough to fully charge your phone – a Blackberry will get an extra 38% charge, for example. While that doesn’t sound much, that is an extra 7 hours standby – which could make all the difference.
It’s also not very quick – while obviously times will vary depending on the phone, for a modern smartphone, the Nipper will give an extra 10% battery capacity in 30 minutes, and 20% in just over an hour. But if you’re using this for an emergency, that shouldn’t be a worry.
The Nipper comes in either Black or White and you’ll get a choice of either White, Blue, Black or Red fabric straps, or you can get leather straps for a little extra. All will work perfectly as a keyring so you’ll always have it with you.
The Nipper is being sold on crowd-funding website Kickstarter and is looking for modest target of £6,000. It’s very close to being beaten after just a few days and it’s easy to see why. £15 will get you the world’s smallest charger – we think that’s well worth the dosh if you’ve got a phone that’s compatible.
